This was a wonderful introduction to woodworking! The workshop space had so many different interesting projects about which hinted at the creative possibilities. My child who attended really enjoyed their time and came home showcasing the many different things they had built.

Maker Nexus staff is talented and it is obvious that they love what they are doing, and it rubs off on the campers. Nothing better than seeing your child's face light up when they make something by themselves from start to finish that they never dreamed they could do, like welding a metal rose sculpture. I've seen a LOT of kids come through camps at Maker Nexus. They all seemed excited, happy, and it looked like they were having fun. The instructors seemed to be very caring and I watched a few of them doing instructional sessions - the kids were attentive and interested in what was being taught. If you're looking for a STEM experience to broaden your child's horizons, Maker Nexus is the place to go.
My 13 year old loved the Glassworking camp and is asking to go back! He really got into it, and got lots of personal attention from the instructors and flexibility with what he wanted to work on. Some parents might want to know that minor burns are a distinct possibility ... my kiddo came home with a couple of them, but liked the class so much he didn't even complain about them.

My three kids went to Maker nexus and had the best time. Each of my two girls got to make a stained glass project of their choosing design and realization. It was a great experience for them. My son got to learn how to weld and had so much fun doing it. This camp is amazing.
Great space, equipment and instructors. My sons had a great experience and will definitely go again for other camps.
Professional, safe, organized and informative. Clear and direct safety protocols. Individual desks and gear. The instructor was engaging and interactive when we needed help. My joints weren’t the best at the start but after a while I understood the flow of a weld and got decent results.
Really fun activity! The teacher was friendly and extremely knowledgeable and made the whole thing a delight!
My 11 year old daughter and her cousin LOVED this camp. Myles and the team kept the camp engaging for them while they learned several new skills. They both came home with new crafts from the tools that they trained on. I only wish there was a camp like this when I was a kid!

Wow! First I want to review the Maker Nexus space and staff. The place is absolutely amazing! I’ve never seen so many different types of machinery, equipment, and technology all in one place. From the metal shop, woodworking, welding, sewing, 3D printing, laser cutter, vinyl and fabric printing, and so much more. The staff that I talked with were friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. We were given a tour while I waited for my sons camp to start.
My son took the Rocketry camp. The 2 instructors, Fred and Danielle were fantastic, as were their assistants! They definitely know rockets and are enthusiastic about the hobby. The class goes into so much more than hobby rockets though. The class goes into math, trajectories and other factors that could influence each rockets launch. The final day of camp was launch day, and parents are invited to watch. It was fun seeing all the rockets, including many others besides the students. I would definitely recommend Maker Nexus and this Rocketry in particular.

I've spent countless hours watching welding YouTube videos and spend more than 10 hours TIG torch in hand (can't say 'welding'). I took the class just for the safety training and was doubtful how much more 3 hours of 'hood time' would give me.
Oh, how wrong I was. Ginger is an excellent instructor and the hardest part for me was to get rid of the bad habits I've learned while being 'self taught'. At the end of class my t-joint was much better than what I imagined I would get even with a full day of training!

I have been a member of Maker Nexus from the time they were just getting started. They appear to have some of the most robust and widest selections of maker spaces in the same building. They add machines and tools to make it work for everyone. I particularly use, and teach classes, in the woodworking area. I like to use the lasers and ShopBot and I like I have access to leather working, metal working tools, as well as hob knob and kibitz with other like minded makers to trade info and help each other out.

This is an amazing space with excellent teachers. The class sizes are very small giving almost 1:1 interaction opportunity. The machines are well maintained and the space is very safe and clean.
I would recommend Maker Nexus to any friend, young or old. I signed up my 10 yr, niece for a camp over the summer. When I saw the cool stuff she was getting to experience, I ended up joining as a member and have expanded the little bit of knowledge that I had with wood, which consisted of using a hammer and a nail, to actually making a wooden pen and then made a beautiful cutting board and currently working on salad bowl

For a beginner with no experience at all into woodwork, the workshop was super informative. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and taught us the usage of equipment in a manner easily understandable.

Sergio is a great teacher. He answered our questions, and gave us all hands-on sharpening time with the rouging gauge, spindle gauge, and parting tool. I learned just what I needed to, to move forward and sharpen on my own. I brought some of my tools, and during class , and because of time, I was able to learn to sharpen them. I've taken a couple woodturning classes recently and sharpening is never a major focus of the classes. These sharpening classes are critical to move forward with woodturning. Wow, this camp was great! My son learned way more than I expected and even built us a high quality chessboard as his final project. He learned how to use a wide range of tools and is now very eager to teach me everything he learned. The best part is that now he's ready to do projects on his own here at home. He tells me that he would highly recommend this camp to all of his friends and he's ready to sign up for the advanced woodshop camp next!

I took Woodshop I and II. It was super fun and informative! Instructor was great and very knowledgeable.
Excellent tools, instruction, and community! The class handouts were really well produced, and there was a strong emphasis on safety while having fun.
You will not find a better place to engage your child! The ratio is what makes it awesome (I think it was 1:6)! Our son and daughter were so excited to go everyday and work on their projects. At the end of the week long spring break session, they presented all the items they made. They got to experience the band saw, lathe, resin and so much more! They used creativity and communication as they had to tell about what they wanted to make and teachers could help them. Our daughter was the only girl attending camp that week but she loved it and wants to attend future sessions.
I took a side table class there previously and Eric guided us with every aspect of making the table. It’s been by my bed for over a year. My son recently took one of their woodworking camps and the teachers were able to nurture each student’s talents. They’re currently setting up after a recent move into a larger space, they’re the largest and most well stocked maker space I’ve ever seen.
Although I have some prior knowledge of mill operation, I found this course excellent as a refresher or for a newbee. The instructor was very thorough and personable. I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in milling.
The class was very good. I feel with a bit more organization with how to stack activities you could complete a whole set of 7 dice. Also, was slightly disappointed that the final class was cut an hour early so instructor could teach the vinyl cutting class. Also, we used a pressure pot in class but were not given the make or model. We were told there was another unit- never saw it, it was disparaged the whole time. Slightly disappointed that I cannot produce dice on my own yet due to the issue of ac querying a pressure pot.
Great experience with Dave at maker nexus. Has a lot of experience with the machines, how to work them and how to fix them!
Had a great time learning the tips and tricks of the ShopBot at MakerNexus. Instructor was awesome and was able to also help brainstorm ideas for one of the other attendees.
This class was super thorough and extremely informative. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested learning about the Laser cutter and how to use it.
My daughter was the only student who signed up for that particular time, so I was able to sit in and observe. The teacher is very experienced working with kids. My daughter was a little nervous about burning herself, and he didn’t pressure her at all. He said he could do one or two for her, as there would be a lot of soldering opportunities with that project, and he was absolutely right. She started doing it herself almost immediately after that. When we got home, my daughter said she wanted to take soldering 2 next year. I pointed out that she didn’t have to wait the long, but she relishes her unstructured time :-)
Highly recommended! Jeannie the instructor did great in the short 5-day long camp. Our 15 yo was able to complete a fairly ambitious project - kids can imagine and design something but don't know how hard it would be, so it's clear that Jeannie did a bit of nudge here and there to help complete it in a given time. Parents got to see their work on day 5, and it was clear to see first-hand that she built good rapport and connection with the kids. She's energetic, engaging, and passionate, and the attitude was infectious among the students and assistant(s). Plenty of safety measures - e.g., most of the work was done in an open hangar even some kids are already vaccinated, with goggles enforced at all times. Kids are able to bring their proud work home -

This was a fun, useful class! I learned the specifics of using MN's sewing machines, how to print on the fabric printer, adjust an image to print on the fabric, then how to assemble the mask for a working mask.
My only disappointment was the image of Chewbacca that I happened to choose. The resulting image was kinda creepy looking as a mask, but that's not the fault of the class...it's not a design class. It's a learn how to take an image, transform it to fit the mask pattern, learn how to set up the fabric printer, print the cropped image, assemble all the fabric layers into a mask that fits my face really well and filters the air like it's supposed to do.
The class inspired me to try some future products to find some images that work well on this mask design. I HAVE SOME NEW TOOLS TO USE ON FUTURE PRODUCTS!!!! YAY!!!

He was very patient and also gave solid instruction about usage of the mill and was able to demonstrate usage of the machine, giving good feedback and instructions to the students so that they could use the machine in a safe and effective manner. I took this class as a review, since I'm pretty new to wood working and haven't done anything this year, due to COVID. I'm glad it did. Alyssa did a great job and I now feel comfortable using these tools again. She goes at the pace of the students and makes sure you get it before moving on to the next tool. Great class.

The overwhelming feedback and reviews we read were reconfirmed by our experience. It was super working with a Boss Laser. Speed has definitely improved and as always we received great support. Will be following up with at least one more LS2440 as our biz grows.
Full disclosure, I am a Board Member at Maker Nexus, but I am also a maker and have been expanding my abilities by learning how to use new devices at Maker Nexus. The CNC router course was fun, quick and thorough. We learned how to make a 3D design, move our file over to the CNC machine, set everything up and cut our work. All in about 3 hours! Sure it will take time and practice to become an expert, but what skill doesn't? However, the Maker Nexus course gave us all the skills and fundamentals needed to move forward on our own, safely and confidently.
Eric, the instructor is very thorough and helpful. He taught at a very good pace and was open (and patient) to answering our questions and helping whenever we needed it! We would definitely come back for another lathe class!

Thank you for the great feedback. As an instructor of science and engineering, with a formal background in STEM, I care more about their learning experience than anything else because we need better learning experiences in the community (alignment with NGSS - Next Generation Science Standards). I'm willing to work with students as long as needed to help them solve all their engineering challenges. The whole point of the class is to expose children to the world of electrical engineering and the physics of electro-magnetic speakers, but more importantly, the realities of engineering and the challenges that students experience along the way. This was a true academic challenge where children built a speaker from scratch while also refecting as a class on the science behind the device. They also learned how to solder, which is a highly complex vocational skill. They learned about electronic components, how to read circuit schematic drawings, and also what an operational amplifier is (the LM741). If students come out of the class inspired to learn more and remember at least one STEM concept from the whole experience, I can assure you that the time was well spent. The reason the project ran long, unfortunately, was that the company that I have been sourcing components from since I was your child's age has long since passed their inventory on to another company based in San Jose, who did not want to sell me the parts!?! it was an unfortunate attempt at supporting a local business. I had to use another component with a different form factor that required some additional modifications. This has already been corrected for future iterations by using a wonderful component package provided by Amazon. Also, some students made some incorrect electrical connections. There is no way around that, unfortunately; it's all part of the learning experience. Either way, your child/children should feel proud. They worked on a very challenging project. We would love to do more electrical engineering at MN and also challenge your child/children to do more than what they believe they are capable of. Thank you so much for participating in our day camps.

Maker Nexus is an excellent makerspace. It is well equipped and has a friendly and helpful staff and very friendly and helpful members! Maker Nexus offers a number of classes so that you can learn to use the equipment safely and effectively. I took the 3D printer class and not only learned about the printers, but also got an excellent education about how to take STL files from 3D CAD programs and use the Slicer program to produce 3D printer files (gcode) with an optimized design.
I would highly recommend this class if you are starting to dabble into woodworking. It was an excellent workshop 1. I learned quite a bit. Eric went at pains to work through four basic power tools in this class, starting with the planer, jointer, table saw and finally compound saw. He went through quite a detail and was absolutely worth the time spent. I have signed for Woodshop II too and plan to complete 3 and 4 too.
I love to learn, and especially love to learn how to do new things. This program achieved that goal for me.

Makers Nexus is a great place for learning how to build and create. My son recently went to learn how to use wood shop tools. He enjoyed the one on one training and is looking forward to the next class.
This class is a great introduction to basic woodworking and safety. Eric is very experienced (15 years woodworking) and packed a lot of information into the 3-hour session, even some tips that woodworking hobbyists around my work didn’t know. I left feeling confident to use the tools on my own!

My 12 year old daughter took this one at MakerNexus and really enjoyed it. It's a great place and as a non-profit, amazing way for kids to learn a lot about things. The kids made a chess board and designed chess pieces, prototyped, 3d printed them, and cut them using vinyl cutter. I would highly recommend any activities there.

This is one of the best basic operation and safety class that I have taken. Great handout materials . Greg did a great job explaining everything comprehensively and sensibly.
My daughter is rather the sports kind of camper and was not very sure about joining sewing camp. Her mind changed in one day. He absolutely loved it and was very proud of all the projects she did. They started with pillows, small wallets, vests, hand bags and finally they made their own pants. Thanks Maker Nexus for such a wonderful experience!
I took part in laser training with a small group at Maker Nexus. The session was straightforward - we learned about laser safety, approved materials, components within the machine, and the software that controls the laser. The experience level varied across the group, yet everyone was able to ask questions freely and knowledge was shared without reservation. We tested our knowledge by creating a small trinket out of wood under instructor supervision. I would recommend this course to anyone that had an interest in laser engraving. Maker Nexus is still in its infancy but I can see high potential for the space - the people are ultimately what made the experience special and I look forward to seeing what they do in the future.
It is a great makerspace staffed with smart and caring people. They have a lot for kids but it's also a great place for parents to learn new skills, use top of the line equipment, and make things. I love the place.

Great experience! It was great seeing so many people learning to use the laser cutter. The BOSS laser class has me confident that I can now use the equipment.
I learned to laser like a BOSS (i.e. use the BOSS laser cutter/etcher).
Nice overview of the equipment, with a focus on safety and making sure all participants had the opportunity to use it.
The Class was Fun, INFORMING, and Helpful to my special disability needs.... It is great to learn how to do creative things with copper and looking forward to learning more....
Fun class! Carmen is very knowledgeable and experienced. She guided us to make charming bracelets and opened up the world of metal folding. Can't wait to take another class at Maker Nexus!
I'm just starting out with ActivityHero. The site is easy to navigate, easy to filter for the specific interest. I will let you know how if goes for me and my family. Come back again for another to read another review to find out how many thumbs up or down, but so far, so good.
Great class! Regina was a very good instructor and covered everything I needed to know to use the Vinyl Cutter and Heat Press. Made two fun projects and can't wait to get back to make more.
