Build your MouseBot; program your MouseBot; control your MouseBot; then take your MouseBot home to meet the family - that’s what the Arduino MouseBot camp is all about. Jump into learning how circuits work and how to program them! Students will build a foundation in electronics basics and programming using the Arduino microcontroller which makes it easy to design and prototype interactive projects.
Our budding Arduino programmers will learn to solder circuits, how to program, and how to use a laser cutter. They will learn about different types of sensors - such as a line follower, joystick, and an ultrasonic sensor - to control a small motorized robot mouse that they build themselves. Basic Arduino IDE programming will be taught. Students will design their own mouse body, cut it out with the Maker Nexus laser cutters, and attach it to their finished robot. Students will go home with a fully functional Arduino-controlled robot that allows for ongoing expansion using the Arduino platform.
Students will be constructing basic circuits with LEDs, potentiometers, and servo motors and dive into the coding in more detail, such as 'if/then" statements and loops. The circuits they’ll build include controlling LEDs with both digital and analogue outputs, they’ll build button inputs, potentiometer inputs, and light-sensitive diode inputs, including one with a simple servo-motor output Each students will come up with creative applications through a series of project designs and a final construction of a robot mouse that will be guided through the programs coded by the students to see if they can maneuver their mouse through a maze, and to perform simple tasks.
Please note this camp is limited to participants 12 or older at the start of camp!
Camp Scholarships are available through Santa Clara County’s Summer Camps and Enrichment Activities (SCEA) program. To see if you qualify, visit http://www.makernexus.org/scholarships
