About
Bay Area Kids Camp (Cool Coyote Kids Camp)

Bay Area Kids Camp is a 100% mobile outdoor adventure camp that takes kids to different nature preserves to hike and explore. Founded by Kathy Banks, of Cool Coyote Kids Camp.

Each day we explore a different nature preserve and spend time hiking in the woods, climbing trees, and exploring tide pools, ponds, and creeks. On all of our adventures, we have seen everything from the smallest insects, banana slugs and deer to watching whales spouting and birds of prey flying.

Some of our past adventures include:
- A day trip to Half Moon Bay:  To play at one of the local beaches to build sand castles, and exploring tide pools.
- Hiking through the Redwoods to a creek to catch crawfish and or newts and look for banana slugs.
- A day trip to Hidden Villa to see the animals and hike the forest along the creek.

Founded in 2010
Our Staff

The camp helpers are all mature adults that are CPR/First Aid certified that love being out in nature with the children. They have a sense of purpose helping children to be able to play, explore nature, daydream and take a break from our fast pace busy world.

Our daughter (5 yo) had the best time! Kathy and the rest of the team made her feel welcome right away, and she was in heaven being outside all day every day. We heard about all of the adventures, and all of the critters she got to meet and pet. Vans were on time all week, and everything went as smooth as can be. We will definitely be back.

My kids have attended Hummingbird camp a few times. My son did a session over mid-winter break, and both my kids joined for two weeks over summer break. They both loved it - even during the mid-winter camp when there was a lot of rain and mud. They have fun adventures that they come home talking about. That said, my kids love spending time outdoors, and we give them the right clothes to handle what the weather throws at them. If your kids like to spend time outside, your kids will have a great time!

We definitely had some concerns about our child's specific needs, safety and supervision after her first day of camp, That said, Kathy was a good communicator about them and our kid ended up having a positive experience overall. I think (like most camps) this one comes down to whether or not the camp is a good fit for your kid. If they are comfortable with minimal structure and supervision make new friends easily and love to play outside all day, they'll probably love it. Just wasn't quite right for our kid, now we know.

Hi Clarke, This is a good question. We have about 14 different places to go explore with the camp children. I usually wait to see what the weather is going to do before deciding on the locations each week. I will send an information e-mail to the parents the week before their child's camp letting them know what their child needs to bring and where we will be going each day. There are a couple of locations that the kids and camp leaders love so those are usually repeated each week. We love going to see the horses and then to "dog Beach" (Mavericks in the harbor) and Memorial County Park to play in the redwood forest and creek to look for crawfish. My web site is www.bayareakidscamp.com for more information. I am always happy to talk in person if you would like to call. Thank you! Kathy -

Hello! I let the kids help decide which activity they would like to do and it also depends on the wind. There is not a set schedule. Here is a sample of the info e-mail that I will send out to the parents about the Eagles Adventure Camp. Camp is from 8:30 to 4:30. We will be going to the Half Moon Bay Kayak company to use their equipment. We have the choice of kayaking, paddle boarding and bike riding. HMB Kayak will have wet suits, paddle jackets and life jackets, bikes and helmets for us to use. Your child is welcome to bring their own helmet if they would like. If it gets cold we will stay warm with the wet suits and paddle jackets. We can paddle board the first part of the day and kayak after lunch, depending on the wind. We are going to just play and have fun. It's OK if your child has not paddled in the past. It's easy and fun to learn! We also have boogie boards and if the waves are on the smaller side, we might go play in the waves with the boogie boards. If the kids need a break from the water sports we can go explore the redwoods and hike to a creek to catch crawfish. The children can help to choose the activities we do. Your child will need to bring their swim suit, towel, change of clothes, jacket and/or sweat shirt, shoes for bike riding, lunch, snack and their water bottle. The kids get hungry when they are so active so pack a big lunch for them! That said, I've had kids ask if they can buy lunch in the harbor near the Kayak place. It is OK with me if you want to send money along for your child to buy lunch. They also like to buy an ice cream at the end of the day. They are welcome to bring games or cards to play when taking a break from the water activities. There are bathrooms and a place to change into swim suits at the harbor and Kayak place. We will have snacks and extra water along if needed. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy paddling! Kathy -

No, we only have the Eagles Adventures meeting at Beresford Park in San Mateo at this point. If you have a week or so that your child would like to do the Eagles camp, let me know and I can try to make it happen at Cuesta Park. Always happy to talk in person. Kathy -
