In the morning, take a journey through time - past and future - as you construct fantastic motorized projects using LEGO® elements. Campers visit different time periods with the help of our imaginary time machine and build motor-powered projects for each destination. They will build a prehistoric creature that moves, a futuristic hovercar, a friendly robot, and more! Each project teaches a different STEM skill, from how gears increase speed to how electricity powers motors.
Campers customize projects with their creativity, add colorful and flashing light bricks, and use their builds in activities and fun challenges. It's a great opportunity to explore unique methods of constructing and powering LEGO® creations, and share an enthusiasm for building with teachers and other campers.
In the afternoon, LEGO® fans will build remote-control projects, and drive them over ramps and through obstacle courses. Campers construct projects which use special LEGO® elements such as an infrared receiver, motors, and gears. When done, students control their creations with an infrared remote and move them through fun settings to complete problem-solving challenges. Students create a snowmobile with treads, a twin-prop helicopter car, hopping creature, and more.
Campers will also work in pairs to program movement for Botley - one of the coolest new robots around. Students have a completely hands-on robotics experience, coding actions by pressing buttons on the robot so that it navigates obstacles and completes challenges, like getting through a maze and playing golf and bowling. Campers get a great introduction to programming logic, and even explore how loops (repeated steps) and if/then commands (used in obstacle avoidance) can be used to direct a robot to successfully complete tasks.
