Science Camps of America

I went to Land and Sea camp in July 2024 and it was amazing! I absolutely loved my time there and would definitely go back. I learned so much about Hawaii and science, and the counselors and people there were awesome too. I would definitely recommend this camp to anyone who is interested in science - we talked and learned about biology, climate change, geology, volcanology, and more! This camp was one of the best weeks of my life!

My daughter attended the Land & Sea Camp on July 1-10, 2024. She had such an amazing time. The mixture of science, conservation, physical activity, and group dynamics were perfect for her. She is getting a full credit for the course through her online school, so she is excited about that as well. She definitely wants to attend again!

I really enjoyed science camp both times I’ve gone. The counselors are amazing and the activities were awesome. I’ve learned so much and I love that I can ask science questions anytime.

I went to the Land and Sea camp in Hawai’i and it was amazing! Not only was the friendships I made incredible and beautiful, but the opportunities we were given to explore the natural world around us on the island was amazing. The science we learned and were able to participate in was great for our community and our minds to grow in.

Our 13 year old boy had a brilliant time on the Big Island with the Land & Air Camp. They built rockets, went to the volcano, went swimming & stargazing and so much more. He really enjoyed it and would highly recommend!

My 14 year old son attended the camp and absolutely loved it! The camp's focus on preserving the environment was particularly important to me, as I work for the Department of Energy investing in clean energy projects.
Having the opportunity to meet other campers from around the country and exposure to unique areas of the Big Island was invaluable! Mike's daily recaps of their activities was also delightful.

My daughter is the third child we sent to camp. My sons have so much great stories about their experiences and shared them with their siblings. My daughter enjoyed her learning experiences and all the people she got to meet. She cannot wait to come back next year as she had a church camp to go to right after science camp.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at camp! I learned so much and did many extraordinary events! I would definitely recommend to someone who is very passionate about doing new things at a high level!

My 17 year old had a wonderful learning experience! The first thing he told us, "Mom, dad, I wish I can bring you here and show you some of the most beautiful places I've seen!" Mike runs an excellent program! From beginning to end he answered my every question and concerns expeditiously. I am very happy I found this amazing place!

Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Science Camps of America’s Land & Sea program! It was a wonderful introduction to the Big Island of Hawaii, and she was able to explore vastly different habitats and environments. From stargazing at Mauna Kea and hiking in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to snorkeling in Punalu’u (black sand) Beach and visiting Green Sands Beach, every day offered a new learning opportunity, and each activity was well-organized. Our daughter bonded with fellow campers, and she was excited to participate in community service projects that directly related to her interests in marine ecology and land conservation.

From a parental perspective, my husband and I appreciated the daily email and photo updates from the director. Commmunication to and from camp was easy, and if we had any questions along the way, they were promptly answered.

My son loved this camp. He has already asked to go back next year. Thank you!

My son wasn’t sure what to expect from science camp it was his first time, and definitely not his last! He enjoyed his time so much!! From the field trips to making new friends and all the daily activities they have for them! Thank you too Mike and all the camp counselors and staff for making this experience possible.

Being that my son is more a stay in doors person, I wasn't sure how he would adjust to being outdoors and all I can say is I am so grateful he partook of this wonderful experience and opportunity.

Air & Space Camp 2019. From my son, Matthew, who attended camp; At the beginning of the camp, I wasn’t really happy with being there as I’m usually uncomfortable with talking with new people. Thankfully, after the second day, some counselors and campers came up to me which helped me overcome those fears. Once I learned that I actually had things in common with some of them I started to have so much fun. As the week went on, the team building exercises and excursions also help me feel more part of the group. I especially liked the rover control one, where we had to run back and forth giving directions to our blindfolded team members of how to complete the mission objectives. It was also cool to build a rocket for the first time, even if mine exploded because it hit a pole almost immediately after liftoff. Overall, this camp was a good experience for me. I gained some much needed self confidence, made new friends, had some cool life experiences, and learned a few new skills I hope to use in the future.

From me as a parent;
Mike and his staff were very responsive to our questions and concerns which ensured us that our son was well taken care of during the camp. I looked forward to and enjoyed all the nightly email updates coupled with all the great pictures that the campers took of each other. It was a joy to see his smiling face in those images. I’m so thankful that we sent our son your camp. You are teaching invaluable life skills to these young people that they will apply to the rest of their lives.

My son came back home excited about his trip and all the things he had the opportunity to experience and learn. He is anxious to return next year. I really appreciate the director of the program's daily progress reports and pictures to help parents be aware of what the campers were doing. Definitely worth the effort and time devoted to providing my son a first hand experience at learning about air and space.

It was really fun, I enjoyed every bit of it! The counselors were so kind and made me feel welcomed. The activities were great!

I send my 14 your old daughter for Land and Sea camp and it was absolutely amazing experience for her. She came back with lots of scientific information and wonderful memories of Big Island. Camp director was superb in responding to me, we had trouble with our flight and they made sure there were people to meet her at the airport and took great care of everything! I love all the photos Mike was posting every day! It’s great to see kids learning while having fun and making new friends! Thank you! We definitely will be back next summer for space camp.

I my 11 year old kid loved it he liked it because they kept u so busy with fun activities that you didn't know that you were learning anything.

I loved my experience at Science camp and have forged friendships that I count on today. I didn't know what to expect, but I was hopeful that I would make friends, learn something, and make great memories. Although, I was familiar with going to camp, I was worried about going to a science camp because I didn't think I was good enough in science to go to this camp. I was reluctant to go and told my mom my concerns, but her response was "maybe this camp will teach you science in different way and help your confidence. It did exactly that! I'm more confident in myself and have a great desire to try new things, and ask questions.

We picked up our Grandson from his first 10 day Science camp (Land & Sea Science Camp) and our otherwise quiet grandson did not stop talking for 1 1/2 hrs about his experience. We enjoyed hearing every day from the Camp Director of their previous days activities accompanied by lots of photos of the kids. We were amazed at how many activities, studies and diversity included in this intense learning environment these kids were engaged in from 8 am to lights out. I was impressed that there was always a backup plan B when activities changed due to weather, etc. His favorite was star gazing and learning about the planets and galaxies. He started many of his sentences with "Did you know". We learned a lot too.

15; Honolulu HI, when my mom told me I had signed up for a science camp, I was skeptical, but after the first day there I knew that this was going to be a great experience. We were able to go to so many locations and we were able to learn a lot of facts about the island. Everyone at the camp had such great personalities and it was a great time to bond with other campers.

15, Honolulu HI — I found out about Science Camps of America through the newspaper and right away, I knew I wanted to go. I told my mom to sign me up, and she did. I attended the Land and Sea Camp, which was the first session of two last summer—it was also Science Camps of America's very first camp session ever. At first, I was unsure of being with complete strangers for a full week and a half... but when I met the other campers, my worries disappeared. I made great new friendships all while having new experiences. I was never, ever bored. Mike set up such amazing activities! Sheri was the nicest nurse ever, and Toni was, by far, the most hilarious counselor I have ever had at a camp. We all bonded so much over the ten days we had together, all while experiencing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. It's something that I will never stop telling others about, and something that I wish I could attend again.

I was a camper June 2013 and it made my summer! I had been to Sea Camp in Galveston for two summers before that but they definitely were no comparison to Science Camps of America - Hawai'i Land & Sea. Each day was a new experience and I learned so much from Mr. Richards and all of the other wonderful people I encountered including my Counselor Toni, the camp nurse Sheri (who is one of the sweetest nurses I have ever met) and especially from all the other campers I spent my days with. I would chose this camp over Disneyland (or world) any day of the week (those lines are ridiculous anyway) instead of spending half of your vacation waiting in line, spend it all in one of the most remarkable places in the world. I guarantee you wouldn’t see the same Hawai’i I saw on any old family vacation. Aloha!
P.S. I fell so deeply in love with Hawai'i that I applied for two universities there and was blessed with admission from both as a major in Marine Biology!

Wonderful camp. My 14 year old son had a great time and was well entertained and learned so much he is still talking about it. Mind you he is a science geek and came in knowing quite a bit so I was pleased that he learned so much more.
He is hoping to return this year.

I worked at this camp as a camp counselor. This camp is amazing I have never worked or attended a camp that made science fun. Garente to never be a dull moment we were kept busy the entire time with excursions around the island and the outside laboratories.

this science camp did so much for my son who attended. aside from getting him more interested in volcanoes he made great friendships whom he has kept in touch with after camp. i am happy to recommend them.
