Get ready for a week-long chemistry extravaganza inspired by The M.C. Detective Agency: Chemical Solutions Required! Campers will dive into the exciting mysteries solved by twins Poppi and Ray, exploring chemistry concepts cleverly disguised within their adventures. Through hands-on experiments, kids will learn about Molecular Fluency and Molecular Literacy, the building blocks of chemistry, and apply them to real-life cooking and edible science activities.

During Chemistry Week, campers will:

  • Discover the science behind cooking processes, from boiling water to making gummy bears.
  • Experiment with mixtures, solutions, and the phases of matter to see chemistry in action.
  • Learn key vocabulary like molecules, compounds, elements, and chemical reactions.
  • Explore the fascinating roles of bacteria, fungi, and other natural processes in food creation (like making bread and yogurt).

Activities Highlights:

  • Mixing & Separating Ingredients: Learn how mixtures and solutions work in the kitchen.
  • Exploring States of Matter: Create fizzy drinks with carbon dioxide, jiggle Jello with molecular rearrangement, gummy bears and make edible slime.
  • Cooking Chemistry: See how water interacts with different foods and explore the science of gelling agents like pectin and psyllium.
  • Culmination Experiments: Experience the explosive fun of Coke and Mentos reactions and the foamy magic of making elephant toothpaste!

Learning Goals:
Campers will connect fundamental chemistry concepts to everyday activities like cooking while enhancing their molecular fluency and literacy. They'll leave with a deeper appreciation for how science impacts their daily lives—and plenty of tasty experiments to brag about!

What to Bring:

  • A love for mysteries, a curious mind, and an appetite for science fun!

Our daughter loved this summer camp! It was a safe and nurturing environment for her, and the engineering theme was awesome. She keeps saying how she wants to be an engineer when she grows up! Great hours and lovely staff. Will absolutely send her again!
