Activity Summary:
In this engaging session, campers will embark on a journey to explore how the human body works and why good nutrition is essential for health and wellness. Through hands-on activities, creative projects, and engineering challenges, campers will learn about anatomy and physiology in a fun and interactive way. They'll discover how the digestive, circulatory, and skeletal systems function, as well as how exercise and nutrition play a vital role in keeping the body strong and healthy.

Key Highlights:

  • Explore Body Systems: Campers will learn about the digestive and circulatory systems using life-size models, understanding how food fuels the body and how nutrients travel through the bloodstream.
  • Build Organ Models: Using the Engineering Design Process, campers will build models of the heart, lungs, and kidneys to explore how these organs work and why they’re essential to health.
  • Hands-On Creativity: Campers will use playdough to craft the skeletal structure and human cells, combining art with anatomy for a fun, visual learning experience.
  • Nutrition Exploration: Learn the basics of good nutrition and how food choices impact the body's health and performance. Campers will create a "Healthy Plate" activity to identify nutritious foods that fuel their bodies.
  • Physical Fitness: Campers will participate in fun physical activities to understand how exercise helps keep the body strong and supports the systems they’ve studied.

Learning Goals:

  • Gain a basic understanding of human anatomy and the roles of key systems like the heart, lungs, kidneys, and skeleton.
  • Discover the importance of nutrition and physical fitness in maintaining a healthy body.
  • Apply creativity and engineering skills to build organ models and create artistic representations of the body.
  • Foster an appreciation for the connection between food, fitness, and body function.
