Overview

Student-Teacher Ratio 10:1

This class will be a combination of problem solving from Beast Academy level 2 and 3 select chapters and math games for mathematically curious students entering 3rd and 4th grade in the fall. Beast Academy is published by Art of Problem-Solving as a lead-in to their rigorous middle school and high school textbooks for advanced students. It’s a comprehensive curriculum for grades 2-5, with four guides and four practice books per each level.

This program focuses on thinking deeply about the problems/game strategies and requires children to stretch their brains and apply their knowledge in a variety of ways. This kind of productive struggle builds perseverance and a growth mindset, which pays off a lot in the long run.

Highly recommend! OMC has been invaluable in teaching our child how to think deeply and creatively about math. She enjoys working through the fun resources provided on her own, but also has benefited from being stretched beyond her comfort zone and working collaboratively with other children in small groups. The resources are both relaxed and rigorous - relaxed because instead of doing repetitive sets on a worksheet she can focus on a few problem sets, but also rigorous because she is provided the opportunity to learn a concept in multiple ways and to be able to explain her thought process. OMC has taught her persistence and patience which we see manifest in other areas of her life.
