Are you curious about what mathematicians really do? Here’s a hint: it’s not math worksheets! Come explore math topics not covered in a typical math class this summer at Orlando Math Circle camp! We will investigate math in games of strategy, in beautiful art and the natural world, in currently unsolved math problems and more! As we explore, we will deepen our understanding of problem solving and how to approach unstructured, novel problems. We hope to see you there!
Some mathematical questions that we might investigate:
- Why is math sometimes called the "science of patterns?" What surprising patterns can we discover in apparently simple mathematical operations?
- In a two-player game of mathematical strategy, can we use math to determine who will win before we even begin the game?
- What can we discover when we explore problems that have stumped mathematicians for decades or even centuries?
