This immersive 2-week program is for advanced musicians with band experience who want to do a deeper dive into live studio recording, writing original music, and performing! Connect with other musicians who are as passionate as you are. Perform on-stage in NYC and leave camp with an awesome recording of your band's original track.
The program will focus on growing musicianship, collaborating more deeply as a band under the guidance of an expert instructor, writing original songs, recording and mixing.

In band rehearsal, teens will collaborate with their instructor and bandmates and work step by step to write and record their original music, prepare to record one full song in the studio (and leave camp with a digital copy of their original song) ...and, of course, perform live on-stage in NYC on the last day of the session!
The first week of camp, bands will write and hone their original songs - their coach will guide them every step of the way. On the second week of the session, each band will spend one full 4 hour camp day in the recording studio working with a professional recording engineer. As part of the session, they will also learn about recording set-up for live instruments, mixing, and more. Bands will work on integrating instruments and parts more seamlessly, dynamics, stagecraft, leveling up skills for each instrumentalist and also learn about the music theory ideas behind each song they are playing...and so much more!
All bands will also work on soft skills (and some of the most important band and life skills) - working as a team toward a common goal (even choosing songs together is part of this), working through obstacles and setbacks, learning to collaborate and incorporate ideas and peer to peer learning....and more!
Throughout the week, groups will also do band visits, have a dress rehearsal, and we often have guest speakers too! ...and of course, it's all to get ready for the SHOW - Rock Band & Recording groups will only perform on the last Friday of their two week session (so they have lots of time to prepare)

After years of learning the guitar, growing completely in love with the instrument and performing on it, I became an intern for the 2021 summer camp. It was an amazing experience which help develop my work ethic and passion for helping people reach their goals. The other interns I was working with were absolutely amazing and are still some of my closest friends, and it's always such a joy to see the kids from the summer come back and take lessons throughout the year.
This may seem hyperbolic in reference to a summer camp but I really cannot imagine my life without summer Rock Band Camp and NYCGS. Now that I work here it's so fulfilling to share and build the sense of community and family I always cherished as a part of the school. It's the part of the job I probably take most seriously since when I was younger this place was my refuge; all my friends are here and the staff were always so kind, so I feel a responsibility to impart that through my work now so everybody can feel as great as I do being at NYCGS.
I just completed a year membership and got to take classes with several of their teachers. All of them were fantastic. I have been both a professor and educational administrator, so I know a bit about what it takes to cultivate such a robust group of instructors. They provide both online and in-person instruction with top notch professionalism. The group guitar classes, songwriting circle, and private vocal lessons were rich. The classes are conveniently scheduled and the supplemental materials online are abundant.
I went from only knowing a handful of chords to being able to write and perform my own songs in less than a year. This has been a rewarding creative outlet that wouldn't have been possible without Dylan and Eric especially. Anthony is a phenomenal voice coach too. Aside from the music, all the staff are great human beings. It is a joy just to be around these folks and to meet interesting classmates. Thank you for weaving together such a joyful community!
