Overview

Help Your Child Fall in Love With Writing This Summer! Adventures in Writing Camp Los Angeles is coming to a school near you.

Authors, teachers, and musicians are teaming up to help students fall in love with writing this summer! Adventures in Writing Camp Los Angeles is a one-week “day camp” program that allows elementary campers to write, edit, and publish their own eBooks, and middle-schoolers to create their blogs with guided posts.

Campers are learning and creating under the guidance of credentialed teachers, musicians, and authors. They will learn writing through traditional classroom methods, visual components through storyboarding and e-book design and writing through music. Younger grades will sing and dance to writing themed songs while older grades will write camp-themed chants to practice rhyme and meter. Game and theater-based instruction and outdoor playtime will be sprinkled in as well to “get the wiggles out." It’s the writing camp that turns “writing camp” on its formerly stuffy head.

Game and theater-based instruction and outdoor playtime will be sprinkled in as well to “get the wiggles out."

Each week is self-contained and themed so campers can attend one, or both sessions.

Session 1 at each location will be themed "Personal Narrative". Learn the basics of what makes a great memoir! Students will focus their writing inward and explore their emotions. This program will also cover the importance of sensory details and how to add descriptions to their writing to engage their readers.

Session 2 is themed "Story Elements". Learn the art of storytelling as you bring characters to life and place them within rich narratives. The fundamentals of story structure will be covered in this program, as well as character development and figurative language. This program is perfect for writers of all ages and stages!

The curriculum is fantastic and so are the teachers- Highly recommend them. A very fun, engaging and truly creative experience for my child in writing.

The last week of camp was horrible. My daughter told me she was reading a book while everybody played games or was watching Youtube. This is a writing camp and they did not write that much. The teachers could not handle the class at all. The 5th grade should be adjusted. They need to teach the teachers how to handle the kids. I will not put my daughter in this camp next year.

This camp deserves more than 5 stars. My son was lukewarm at first in going to a writing camp. But just after the first day, he was completely converted and couldn't stop talking about how much fun he had. He was also very enthusiastic about all the stuff they learned and just looked forward to going to camp. He said that this is the best camp he has ever attended! The staff in the Fremont location was the best! He just loved AIW so much that he wanted to do another two weeks camp with them. Unfortunately, I have already booked him for other camps. But we will definitely do this again next summer.

As a parent, I cannot be more pleased to see my son have a very positive and confident attitude towards writing. Thank you so much AIW!!!
