Throughout this course, your teen will learn to make, manage, and multiply money in preparation for moving out on their own. In addition to the financial lessons, they will have the option to compete against other students by earning points for completing practical challenges, such as going grocery shopping, cooking a meal, doing their own laundry, or plunging a toilet! Each completed practical challenge wins points towards completion of the course. This experience also includes a weekly, live group Q&A and training session with one of our Fit Financial Academy instructors.
Module 1
4 Key Decisions
We’ll set your teen up for success by getting some big decisions out of the way. While we know these decisions will likely change as they learn and grow, it will be a starting point to see how these decisions impact other areas of life. The end goal of this exercise is to help your teen set goals regarding where they’re going and HOW they’re going to get there.
They’ll get on the fast-track to deciding things like whether or not to go to college, where they want to live, if they’ll have a roommate, what they’ll use for transportation, and how they’ll handle daily meals. The decisions they make in this module will come into play later in the program.
Highlights:
- Get the 4 key decisions done so they can move forward feeling clear and confident with a plan for the next phase of their life. These 4 decisions will serve as the springboard for creating a budget and participating in the budgeting simulation in the future modules, while also serving as an initial plan for the real world
- Complete a practical challenge related to the tasks completed in this module designed to enhance life skills
Module 2
Make Money

Module 3
Manage Money
Once your teen has a plan to transition from living at home to living on their own and have some options for earning income, they’ll move on to learning to maximize the money they have. After all, it’s not about how much you make, it’s about how much you save. In this module they’ll use the decisions made in Module 1 to create their personal budget. They’ll also participate in the budget simulation where they’ll learn to hone their financial decision-making skills based on both recurring and unexpected occurrences such as getting a flat tire or an exciting educational event.
Highlights:
- Create a personal budget. Based on your expected income and expenses, create a budget for ongoing spending
- Gain experience making financial decisions in our budget simulation game. Your teen will manage a checking account, savings account and credit card as they try to live on a monthly budget and deal with life’s unexpected events. During the game, they’ll see that each choice has consequences. For example, if they make a choice not to study for their exams, their grades will slip and they’ll have to pay for an expensive private tutor! Success in the game is not based only on making and saving money, but also on their quality of life score, encouraging a balance of work and play
- Complete a practical challenge related to the tasks completed in this module designed to enhance life skills
