About
EDNova Academy
Learning in the 21st Century

Our Mission
EDNova Academy aims to inspire, guide, and nurture next generation STEM leaders in the development of their interest in and passion for STEM knowledge from a young age and maintaining high engagement throughout their middle and high school years. We strive to provide exceptional resources and an experiential education that excites, engages, and enriches our students. Most of all, we seek to empower our students with knowledge so they can choose to become who they want to be.

Our Believes in Learning
We believe true learning takes place when students are allowed to discover the underlying principles through a hands-on project based learning model. By providing our students with opportunities to fully immerse and engage themselves in a learning process that excites, energizes, and exposes them to a wide variety of skills and concepts, our students will discover a unique learning path of their own that enables them to excel.

Our Believes in Students
We believe in our students and their abilities. We believe in their creativity and their intelligence. We believe in their insights and ideas. We believe in their dedication and their energy. We believe in their ability to overcome and their ability to persevere. We believe in their desires and their dreams. We believe they can become who they want to be.

WINNIE WONG, PH.D. - HEAD OF ACADEMY & DIRECTOR OF CONTENT – MATHEMATICS

Dr. Wong received her B.A. degree in Math from UC Berkeley and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Math from UCLA. After she obtained her Ph.D., Dr. Wong spent 2 years as a fixed-income quantitative analyst for American Century Investment. Though she enjoyed analyzing the market, her true passion lies in education. She ran a successful advanced-math preparation school in San Diego, CA for 7 years. Upon moving back to the Bay Area in 2007, she switched gears and opted to teach at university level. She was a Math lecturer at Foothill & De Anza College since 2008. In 2015, Dr. Wong accepted a tenure-track professorship in Mathematics at Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) in Belmont, CA. During the school year, she teaches at NDNU, Foothill, and De Anza College. In summer, she enjoys venturing out for new teaching experiences. In summer 2013, she was a Math lecturer at UC Berkeley. In summer 2015, she was a Math lecturer at Stanford University for their EPGY (Education Program for Gifted Youth) middle school Math immerse program.

Besides teaching, Dr. Wong is also involved in curricula development in higher education. She participated in the initiative and piloted the STATWAY pathway, set forth by the Carnegie foundation, at Foothill College. She is involved in the undergraduate curriculum committee, the Student Success Center task force and the Assessment Council at NDNU.

Currently, Dr. Wong is involved in developing Project-Based Learning curricula for middle and high schools in US, Mainland China, and Hong Kong. She is an active advocate of Human Centered Design Thinking and the Maker Movement. Not only is EDNova Academy an official affiliate of the Maker Camp created by the Make Media – the founding organization of the Makers Faire, she also co-organized an international conference with the National Library of China, the Shenzhen Library of Technology and Sciences, the Guangzhou Public Library, and the Wuhan University Library to promote Makerspaces in Libraries to administrators, teachers, students, and the general public in China. Furthermore, she is the organizer and developer of the ITIE 2016 International Makerspace: Design & Create Contest.

Kiddo, enjoyed the camp. She came home with a basic understanding of DNA and genetics. The only drawback was that they spent all their time in a classroom setting and no time outside.

Both our kids have had a great learning experience through Ed Nova. Both Ashley and Dr. Wong helped further our academic goals. They go above and beyond to ensure students develop a strong foundation that helps student excel in school and beyond. They were a life saver for our sophomore!

Both of my kids attended multiple camps at Ednova - which basically already tells you what I - and the kids - think of Ednova. I think contents are a very interesting and intelligent mix of mathematical concepts, mathematical practice, and practical applications. This is ranging all the way from number theory to robotics! And the kids think it's great, they participated, were never bored, and wanted to go again. Winnie also will go beyond the classes, and give you great advice and help you with her experience, gained at Ednova, and from her own kids. Thank you!
