About
The Camp Couture

Camp Couture is a professional fashion studio in San Mateo that provides instruction, and or assistance in making a creative vision come to life.  We provide lessons as well as any sewing service you might need .

Founded in 2006 by Alexandria von Bromssen, Camp Couture is now in its 17th year.  Camp Couture strives to be a leader in the instruction of creativity, technical/haute couture sewing instruction, and repurposing techniques for kids of ALL ages.

You can be 7 (6 if you think your child is ready*), 9, 14 or 70. No one is ever too young, too old too or too cool to learn a lifelong skill and this is especially true with sewing and creativity.

Each student is challenged to set his/her ability.  No student is ever held back or prevented from propelling forward. We aim to really teach and feel our method is a superior one.

Each week is always a fresh and new. What does this mean?  Your child can sign up all summer and never repeat the same project twice. We will build upon their skillset and challenge the campers with new concepts to create.

For the younger sewers - ages 5-6-7 we suggest that a 2 week is better as their motor skills and developmental skills are not that of a 10 year old and that they will be benefit more with a slightly more  relaxed curriculum that 2 weeks would provide at Camp Couture.

Camp Couture hosts a summer camp as well as year round classes and workshops for students for kids and teens. Parties of all kinds are also offered.  So if you are looking for a fun and alternative approach to a birthday party, or a sewing circle, Camp Couture is the place. We offer mother/daughter or son classes - which is a great way to share a new hobby together, We also offer corporate events for the older creative and lessons for adults too.

More serious Camp Couture students have gone to on to be accepted to Pratt, FIDM, Risde University, Ottis, Academy of Art University and the Design School of Paris, France.  One of our dedicated campers is doing hand work for Chanel and Vivienne Westwood in Paris, France. Her work has graced a few famous red carpets. We expect to see more of great news like this.

Camp Couture is a gem! My daughter had an amazing week at the spring break camp and is very eager to return. She has been to so many different camps over the years, and she declared this one her absolute favorite.

Alex is fantastic with the kids - she motivates them without overwhelming them, and it's impressive how much my daughter learned in just one week. Some of the pieces my daughter made at the camp blew my mind (I was turning them inside out and marveling at the construction). Other pieces were clearly more self-directed, but I absolutely love the fact that the kids were given the freedom to experiment on their own and make mistakes. My daughter definitely felt that she had expressed herself creatively each camp day.

My daughter loves to wear the jacket, upcycled skirt, gloves, and purse she made at the camp, and she beams with pride when she tells people that she made the items. I love the fact that she picked up a very useful life skill! I highly recommend this camp and instructor Alex.

My daughter was so engaged and this camp definitely brought out her creativity. I was truly impressed with everything she created only in one week! From a pillow, to a bag, and even a stuffed animal. She wants to continue taking sewing and even wants her own sewing machine now! Thank you for making this the best week of summer camp for her.

Are kids required to participate in the fashion show part? I have a shy kid. (Summer Sewing & Fashion Camp) -

We do fashion shows when the classes are large . When the classes are small 15 and under , we don’t do a show. And the class takes a vote if they want to do it, as I prefer not to force anyone to do anything . -
