The Camp Couture

I work very hard and try to create an amazing environment  for kids to get creative in .  So to read this review was tough.  It means that my good intentions were clearly misconstrued. 
I write here now to clarify this situation  and confusion.
Sewing is dangerous.   Having discipline and respect around sharp objects and understanding where the needle goes is pivotal to sewing.. Especially to prevent injuries and to prevent a ruined project.   Should I ever , I discipline with humor.  I speak Kindly, always soft spoken  and my motto is love more judge less. Recycle.  Love Mother Earth because we have no planet B.   I am Passionate yes.  I do my best to share my knowledge and help the kids learn .  I come with light and love. All ways and always.  Im a firm believer that it takes a village.
I don’t know how to teach any other way but the right way.  I try to make projects that are fun and engaging all the while trying to teach them the principle off sewing. y. I keep beginner projects simple. Even at its most simple, to some, that can be a challenge.  Regardless of which way the lesson goes, mistakes can and do happen.  It is part of the process. I teach them quality and care and patience. And there are times when the math needs to add up.  There  are times I will push them through there tough parts because they have potential to salvage projects.  Giving up is one way, but I don’t think that is what I should teach the students.  
Your daughter had to unstitch her pajama pants because she had sewn one pant leg to the other accidentally to another making it unwearable.  When I have students unstitch the pant  , it is so that the hard work is not in vain. Most often mistakes can be carefully repaired.  Mistakes happen,  It is a part of sewing. Sewing is. a challenge. Even for me today I make loads off mistakes.  I do my best to make things simple for the kids.  2 plus 2 will always equal 4.   In sewing - the measurements are important.  Symmetry is important.  Knowing where to sew is important.   Being HYPER mindful that the sleeve isn’t getting sewn to the waist is important because it is a very easy mistake to make. Sewing is more backwards than forwards.  And learning to sew is a process and mistakes are apart of it. I have a method that makes them strong quickly, but the minute we add a curve to the project , things crumble quickly.
I let your girls do exactly what they wanted and somewhere along the first and only curve, she made her garment unwearable .   If she took all day to unstitch the pant, its because that part is done with a razor blade and its is very easy to slice the garment making a hole as well as poking herself.  She sat comfortably in the swing  and  she did exactly what she was instructed to do. . She fixed the pants and although it took time , that was part of her process.  Sewers all have to learn these basics.  Mistakes happen all the time. Through the creative process of a project, everything is taught one way or another. 
Again. students are there to learn. Sewing can be challenging initially, but that's the part off learning.
IN REGARDS TO THE EATING INCIDENT-
Your child was very sick while she attended camp. I always recommend the child come into class feeling good, rested and with a healthy packed lunch.this is so that they can better concentrate and help with focus. As a devout health enthusiast, her health was concerning as she was getting progressively worse while at the camp. She had to blow her nose and go to the bathroom every 5 minutes.  I knew that she needed some vitamin C to help fend off her cold. 
 I asked the girls what they had for lunch hoping there was an orange in that lunch to boost her immune system. I only saw snacks. Which its a concern to me because being sick with nutrient denseless lunch impacts a students concentration capacity . I watched the kids ate their chips and sweets first and one of the kids that wasn’t sick she became really hyper.  
 I remember one girl saying how she couldn’t stop eating the chips and that she preferred them over her food.  She was giggling more and more and getting sugar crazed from her non-food packaged item.  But she couldn’t stop eating them. She even said that repeatedly.
At the second day I asked again, “What’s for lunch?.” I believe that the little girl packed her own lunch and she bought fruit and nuts because she wanted to show me that her lunch was healthier. And it was, with the exception of pirate booty snack. But an overall improvement. A+ for effort!
 But instead of eating the fruit and nuts first she proceeded to eat pirate booty snack first.
I said “Wait, can I  please read the ingredients on the packaging . ?”
I read the ingredients list and tried  to see if anything  was actually even pop corn ?  I sat there and contemplated. There were only chemicals in that package and zero nutritional value at all . A flag went off, I remembered her hypernwss the day before , and assessed the cognitive effect the food will have in 20 min  from now and I said,  "No.  Its garbage.  Eat your real food. Eat this after class“. A 2 hours wait to eat the pirate booty wouldn’t be detrimental. Quite the opposite , and that is why I said to wait on the pirate booty,
And I am not wrong when I said this.  That stuff is pure non food, and growing kids need food   - not chemicals.  In. A million years I don’t think I was wrong. I saved their brains that afternoon from nutritional assault from an unaware food choice.   I made the decision from a place of heart and care and knowledge. 
I asked the girls if they knew what  a GMO was? 
When they answered “no”, I explained the reason why GMO’s are so bad. 
I explained why it is  important to eat real food.  The body is a bank and you can help it or hurt it by the food you choose too consume,  
 Then I threw in a Vivienne Weswood quote I recently read in a magazine and since its a fashion camp, I like Vivienne Westwood, so I shared  it …..  what Westwood  said in an article was “ if you can’t afford it organic food, then eat less.”  GMOS are that  harmful. They make the food dangerous to the human body.
 I shared that to the girls  . Then back to sewing as normal.  We finished the pants and made some unicorns in the circuit for tomorrows pillow project.  
But they’re 8 years old and the next day when I waited for them not never come… I reached out to you and you said they’re not coming because the kids said they can’t come to class if their food is not organic. 
I was dumbfounded. I’d never say that. And…. I did not  know hoe response to that at all.
And all I can do is write here now,  speak  my truths and apologize for the misunderstanding and redeem myself.
 My conversation clearly got mixed up because this was a new subject for the girls.   Vivienne’s quote I shared clearly got lost in translation.   As did mine.  I’m very sorry .  I’d never say anything like that. I would never nan anyone from camp because their lunch wasn’t healthy.
