--Enrichment Gaming Program--

The Game Academy’s Educational Gaming Program (EGP) sessions use collaborative storytelling via tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. Participants take on new identities and social roles as they play characters and surmount challenges within a group context.

Participation in these games fosters and supports social-emotional growth and the development of creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills and provides exposure to broad areas of knowledge through immersion in the detailed world of the story.

We engage our participants through collaborative storytelling, where every participant in the group plays a character and engages in imagined activities through verbal (and sometimes physical acting) collaboration. The characters in the game are challenged to overcome physical or tactical situations, solve puzzles, or engage in social role-play that provides an opportunity for social and emotional development.

The setting and narrative are fun and engaging while presenting multiple avenues and content for academic engagement. Enrolling in EGP gives students the weekly experience of playing a hero as part of an ensemble team—each hero has specialties valued and respected by their peers, and all are necessary to succeed in the game. Participating students will learn transferable strategies to understand, engage, and transcend real-life issues through the safe and contained context of the game with a group of peers every week.

Attendees will learn the following skills:

  • Problem-Solving
  • Critical Thinking
  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Creativity
  • Social-Emotional Growth

The Game Academy is so much fun! The Game Masters are awesome and have the best stories. They are patient and kind and always encourage players making the day fun and interesting. Small groups are the best and we get to know one another well. The snacks are breaks are great too.

Anthony at The Game Academy is fantastic. Our family started an online adventure during covid that is still going four years later. It's been amazing to follow the story through caves and over rivers and mazes of rooms, exploring and challenging one another to new levels of excitement. Anthony's story telling is engaging and creative and super funny. We laugh, we joke, we tease one another and stay connected even though family members are states away at times. The Game Academy has really brought us together in a unique and fun way.

As a scholar interested in the effects roleplaying games have on the social/emotional development of young people, I can confirm from my research that few organizations are as successful at building these skills as The Game Academy is. Parents and students report that their lives were transformed by the gamemasters and their skillful development of programs and adventuring teams. It isn't every day one encounters an organization that creates programs this fun and this important.
