Camp Marco Polo

The most important aspect of Camp Marco Polo was that it kept my son's (an only child with 2 working parents) interest and met his needs for connection and socialization since he has been at home for 4 homes. After a summer of STEM/coding camps, we found Camp Marco Polo focusing on the Silk Road from Venice to China - perfect since we visited both places in the last two years. Sheila did an amazing job of keeping the class personal, engaging and informative. My 8 year old son said this was his favorite camp because of the combination of stories, activities and music. Every night at dinner he would share what he learned such or experienced as Venice masks were used during the bubonic plague as a form of protection (I fact checked him on google!) or show me a historical map or ask me to make a mask with him. There is also a 1 hour music portion mostly fun and expressive rather than overly rigorous.

My son (rising 7th grader) thoroughly enjoyed this camp. He baked, he made masks, he learned to play pieces on the recorder, he learned about Venice... he was completely engaged for the entire camp! Sheila kept things interesting for the kids and was very kind. The music teacher Kelly was also excellent, giving the kids a taste of the music of the period.

Camp Marco Polo is excellent. I work full time and was looking for a camp for my son that wasn't all about sports or science. Camp Marco Polo was perfect for him. He loved all of the activities, and particularly enjoyed the ones that involved being a merchant and selling or trading your wares. A really unique and fun experience.

What excited me about Camp Marco Polo was the combination of activities and experiences that kids are exposed to in learning about culture, history, sciences, arts and crafts, and much more in an environment that is nurturing away from home. How I envy our kids and wish there were a Camp Marco Polo for grownups too.

I recommend Camp Marco Polo regularly. It is easily my children's favorite camp. The fun of it is equal to the creativity and educational value. My kids have been attending for several years and never get tired of it. I can't recommend it enough as an alternative to the ubiquitous sports and computer camps.

My son Justin participated in Camp Marco Polo a couple summers ago and absolutely loved it! He was already a history fan when he joined the camp, but re-living the silk road era with all the hands-on activities and lively performances opened up his eyes and mind in a whole new way. He came out as an even bigger fan of all things history, and he can't wait to return as a junior counselor this year.

My son loved his first week at this camp so much we signed him up for the rest of the summer. Cannot recommend it enough!

Camp Marco Polo is a wonderful camp! Both my daughters attended in summer 2015, and both had a fantastic time. There is a wonderful variety of activities including drama, arts and crafts, dance, and language arts. The week culminated in a marketplace where kids sell the items they made during the week. My girls still practice bargaining in Turkish, months later. This is the ONLY camp that my younger daughter has ever enjoyed. The small size, intimate atmosphere, and skill of the director and staff all provide a very special, unique opportunity.

Amazing camp, our son was absolutely happy, like really really happy, given how he would talk about it non-stop every day. Unfortunately, we signed him up only for one week (we decided to give it a try first). I want to say big THANK YOU to Sheila and all other instructors, who went extra mile to make it an unforgettable experience. We are coming back :-)

I know you have put your heart and soul into developing the program. Both kids loved your open house. They loved the puppet making, trying on different hats, listening to stories and music. We have signed up. Looking forward to an exciting summer.

Your camp looks truly exciting from what I read online and saw at your Open House during Spring Break I think its a unique camp experience, especially for my kids who love history They were very enthused.
