Camp
Want to learn the ins and outs of the legal system and criminal/civil trials? Want to decipher evidence, solve a mystery, and put a suspect on trial? You can do all of this while also getting experience working as a team, understanding the elements of a trial, sharpening your public speaking skills, and practicing thinking-on-your-feet. This full day, one week camp is staffed by MVHS Mock Trial team alumni and student team members, as well as the teacher coach. The school’s program is 20 years strong. Students will have the opportunity for recreational breaks - outdoor games, free play, and swimming in addition to the morning and afternoon sessions of Mock Trial camp. The week will culminate in students putting on a trial. No prior public speaking or mock trial experience is necessary.
Instructor Dr. Latina Wharton
Dr. Wharton is currently teaching AP World History and US History at Mtn. View HS. Prior to teaching, Dr. Wharton was a criminal attorney for 8 years in Kansas. She has also practiced in family law, juvenile law, and business law.
Dr. Wharton looks forward to helping students with critical thinking, speaking skills, learning about the components of a criminal case, consideration of careers in law and justice, and their potential to participate in the middle school and high school Mock Trial programs.
