About
Brushstrokes Studio

What will your child make? This summer we'll be painting pottery, sculpting with wet clay and doing tons of drawing and painting. We'll spend time outdoors in our yard —finding inspiration in nature, sketching in our hand-made sketchbooks.

Our Staff

Jessica Abbott Williams is an artist and the owner of Brushstrokes. Brushstrokes was founded in 1995 by the ceramic artists Nancy Selvin and Kevin Nierman (of Kids ‘n’ Clay). Two years later, Jessica bought the business from Kevin and Nancy. Jessica is a graduate of the Ceramics Department of the California College of the Arts in Oakland. She has maintained her own studio practice in both ceramics and painting. Jessica has sold her line of ceramics at the SFMOMA Museum Store, the Palo Alto Art Center Gallery Shop, The Gardener in Berkeley and most recently at FarmHouseUrban in Mill Valley.

(Artists in Nature)
January 7, 2025 - Dana Marinovich
Brushstrokes Art Camp has been an incredible experience for my 9 and 11-year-old kids! They’ve loved every moment, especially the themed weeks where they explored topics like Nature, Animals, or Art Techniques. Each week they had the chance to dive into new art projects, experimenting with a wide range of materials to truly express their creativity.

As my son is getting older, I’ve really appreciated how the camp adapts to different age groups. The sessions for older children are the perfect mix of focus and freedom, allowing him to hone his skills while still being encouraged to think outside the box.

The staff at Brushstrokes is amazing—so fun, supportive, and inspiring. They create a nurturing environment that makes it easy for my kids to grow as artists and leave feeling inspired and fulfilled. The space is a perfect setting for creativity; it's a place where I sometimes wish I could spend the day, too!

It’s been a wonderful experience for both my kids, and we can’t wait for next summer!

When my amazing, neurodiverse child is at Brushstrokes summer camp, I do not worry. I know that my kid is in a place that sees them, and appreciates them, for who they are. I know that listening, compromise, and patience can be expected from the staff. My child has an absolute blast whenever they attend.

My daughter absolutely loved the classes. The staff are amazing and the projects are fun and creative. The only sad part is there aren’t more or just yearly classes.
