Are you ready for this 5-day excursion? Participants visit several park sites within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area to learn the ranger mindset of public service through the following themes: Learn, Explore, and Protect. Campers then reflect on how to apply this mindset to life at home. We'll meet every day at the Crissy Field Center in the Presidio, but we'll head down to the South Bay and learn about the different park sites we have in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which spreads into San Mateo County! Junior Rangers spend one night sleeping under the stars at Rob Hill Campground, and they work on a special presentation for the closing ceremony, where they also receive official badges
Crissy Field Center Summer Camp Scholarship Policy Statement
It is the policy of the Crissy Field Center to provide financial assistance to applicants who request it whenever possible. The intent of this policy is accomplished by setting fees at rates affordable to the majority of residents in the Bay Area, and by providing financial assistance to those for whom the Crissy Field Center’s fees are not affordable. Please note that financial assistance is a limited fund, and funds will be disbursed based on an applicant’s financial need. Both partial (50%) and full scholarships are available. Those who receive scholarships automatically qualify for extended care scholarships. Receipt of scholarship award(s) in previous years does not determine eligibility for the current summer camp year.
Selection Process
Applicants must submit income verification (W2, Pay stub, Voucher, SSI, etc.) for the entire household by post mail, email, or fax. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used only in determining financial eligibility. Based on a review of the application, the Center's staff will determine financial assistance eligibility. A sliding scale based on total household income and number of residents will be used to determine the scholarship award. Applications will be reviewed on the 1st and 15th of each month and applicants can expect notification of their application status via email within two weeks of submission.
Scholarship Fees and Restrictions
Each camper is eligible for one scholarship session per summer. Approved applicants will be asked to pay a non-refundable $35 scholarship application fee. Recipients of 50% (half) scholarships will be invoiced for the reduced session price. For example, $400 (cost of camp session) - $200 (50% scholarship) = $200 + $35 scholarship application fee (applicant responsibility). Enrollment is not confirmed until payment is received. Payment for the scholarship application fee and, if applicable, the reduced session price, must be received within one week of invoice or the slot will be forfeited.
