About
DogCamp for Kids

DogCamp for Kids brings children and dogs together in a natural setting. Meet Up in Golden Gate Park, near Polo Fields. Based on our family Dog Walking Service of the past 20 years, DogCamp for Kids provides the childhood many of us remember. Unstructured time outside, rain or shine, full of tree climbing and sword fighting with sticks. We hike about 4 miles a day, and show children the chaotic world of dogs playing freely, some may even consider it dangerous.

There is the distinct possibility of dog bites, as this is one way that dogs play. Sibling Discount.

My boyfriend's 9 year requested to attend dog camp for her birthday week while spending 5 weeks with us. She initially was hesitant as the 30 minute trek from our house to Golden gate park tested her patience, but every single day she was picked up, she sang nothing but how much fun she had with the dogs and with her new friends. She's a social creature and loves other kids but she's gotta be thrown into a situation with them, otherwise she'd rather stay at home and play on her iPad (a familiar story for most I think). I brought cupcakes to pick up on her birthday and brownies on her last day of dog camp, where she found more of her voice and learned to speak more and discuss (a skill she also practice at home with us). I loved the daily photos of the group and the dogs are adorable. The mixed ages of the group was great for my kid to mature to learn to compromise in a big group, and Laura made amazing observations about her that changed how my boyfriend and I approach some issues we had with her. This camp was great, and she loved beach day! If your kid likes having dogs around, has a lot of energy, and needs to get out of this house, I'd recommend this camp immediately. I love GGP and am so jealous that my kid got to explore so much of it for a whole week! This camp is genius and gracious, with lots of communication and great photos. Thanks so much for the great memories!

Thank you for the review. I am delighted that your daughter enjoyed DogCamp. She was a very "DogCamp" kind of Camper who fit in perfectly with our pack. That pic of her with Woozle is cute. See you soon.

Greetings and Thank You for contacting DogCamp for Kids. I love having Camper Dogs in DogCamp. Yet I have learned that it requires much vetting. I used to say yes without conditions, and that is how I came to this process of vetting. It takes planning, and I have to meet the dog first. I like when Campers can bring their own dogs. Yet DogCamp asks much of a dog- the dog has to be great with kids, other dogs, horses we pass, streets, squirrels, SegWay Scooters and even lunch, eaten near the dogs. The tricky part is that there is no place to separate a dog who becomes dysregulated. The dogs have to be good near very small children, also, as we share the park with a few Outdoor Preschools. In short, I have seen many dogs who are well-behaved in most situations, and then they arrive at DogCamp, and they encounter something unusual and react quickly. I have had Camper Dogs break leashes, dash in front of cars, and chase both squirrels and Segway Scooters. I share all of this information because I would like to have Camper Dogs in DogCamp. It just has to be done with care. The dogs I bring to DogCamp are ones I have known for years. Getting to know a dog, who is getting to know me, during DogCamp, is quite a lot to handle. It certainly increases my responsibility and risk when I add more dogs. Here are DogCamp’s parameters: ~ Waiver ~ A Camper needs to be at least 12 years old to bring their dog & demonstrate effective control of their dog ~ Dog must come to Pick Up/ Drop Off at least twice to be observed by me before they are allowed to spend a day in DogCamp ~ $50/ day fee There are many successful times that Campers have brought their dog to DogCamp. I would like to have many more good times with Camper dogs. Thank you, Laura -
Is the age range for kids still on the older end? I have a 6 year old and curious about group dynamics with a younger kid. (Winter DogCamp)
