Your child may be ready if they enjoy water activities, have good balance and coordination, and can swim confidently. A willingness to try new physical activities is also important.
Look for instructors with certifications in water safety, experience in teaching children, and a background in competitive or recreational surfing.
Encourage practice in swimming pools to build water confidence, watch surfing videos, and practice balance exercises on land. Visiting local beaches for practice sessions can also be helpful.
Children as young as 6 or 7 can start learning the basics of surfing, with more advanced techniques introduced as they gain confidence in the water.
