Two Decades Academy
Two Decades Academy
is an Educational Organization created for high-impact Middle and High School students to amplify their skills in political leadership. We focus on debate, critical thinking, and the skills to lead through complexity.
We offer After-School Classes, Summer Camps, National and International Field Studies, and Project-Based Mentorship to Middle and High School students in the Bay Area.
Our mission is to find students who show motivation and action around impacting the world, and teach them skills that are going to reverberate throughout their lives, influencing difficult leadership decisions even 20 years down the road. This ethos has inspired our name (Two Decades) and inspires our work every day.
Our teachers are experts and practitioners of:
- debate, negotiation, and ethics
- public speaking
- qualitative research and analysis methods
- historical comprehension and media literacy
- international relations
All of our programming is experiential and practice-led, dedicating class time to learning and refining skills. Through our programs students develop expertise and explore the world by immersing themselves in the most important current events of our time.
Founded in 2018
Our Staff
Our Educational Director, Simon Olavarria, is a former lawyer and entrepreneur, and has been teaching award-winning students in debate and public speaking since 2009. Simon himself was a champion debater throughout his law school years, unknowingly laying the foundation for Two Decades Academy. Our staff is certified in Pediatric First Aid. Our year-round Master Teachers and Administrative Staff have undergone background checks. All Associate Staff are vetted extensively, with at least three years of demonstrated excellence in advanced debate, and are supervised by Master Teachers.

My son loves Two Decades Academy. It is his favorite hour of the week! He learns so much from Simon and the discussions are engaging and inspiring. He has become a better debater and more engaged dinner partner. I cannot recommend this program enough!

My son has been with Two Decades for 2 years now. It is his favorite time of the week - he is engaged, interested and inspired coming out of every session. Simon is a gifted educator that inspires the kids he works with to learn about the complexities of global politics, and makes the kids feel heard and valued. Every week my son leaves his session super charged with new knowledge and a hunger for more. I highly recommend this program if your child has an interest in debate, and the current events of today.

Hi Ambika! We have our last Middle School session from July 13-17, in which we are happy to accept 7th graders. Our following weeks of July 20-24 and July 27-31 are reserved for High Schoolers (rising 9th graders and up). -
