About
The Coder School - Cupertino

A year-round after-school program located in Palo Alto, San Mateo, and Cupertino that teaches kids to code! Founded by the owner of School of Rock Palo Alto, theCoderSchool will use a similar premise of combining collaboration and immersion with direct instruction to get your kids rockin' their inner hacker in no time!

Whether kids grow up to be lawyers, doctors, engineers, or something else, coding will help develop their logical thinking and problem-solving skills while having fun, too! Coder School is a new kind of after school coding program that focuses on the individuality of each student, customizing our teachings depending on their skills and the desires. Our methodology encompasses the social side of technology and the fun side of learning - after all, kids learn best when they're interested! From graphical languages like Snap or Scratch to more powerful stuff like Python or Javascript and even the advanced coding like Java and C++, we're ready to inspire you and amaze you.

Our Staff

What do we want from our staff?

  • PASSION. All caps! This is all about the kids, we want goose bumps when your student ROCKS a code challenge.
  • Great Communicators. There will be plenty of chatting with parents, and of course patience is a virtue when it comes to kids!
  • Street Cred. Comp Sci degree or major is a typical, but self-learned coders are welcome to apply. Tech industry veterans with a few free hours per week are highly encouraged to apply. High school degree and up, please.
  • Coding Skills. Strong grasp of basic procedural programming. General knowledge of a few languages is assumed - Javascript, PHP, HTML/CSS, Python, Java are most helpful. Deep technical skills aren't required - we prefer you communicate well and find answers along with students than know everything upfront.
  • Teaching Experience. Experience teaching kids in any subject is a plus, as is experience with Scratch.

Great place for kids. Open 3pm-8pm Tuesday through Thursday... Right next to Starbucks. Great to get a drink while your kids are learning to the best of their ability how to code. Hansel is the owner... Always around, nice and accessible! Stop on by. Great after-school activity.

The crew at the San Mateo location are amazing. They gave me a full refund for a camp we couldn't attend at the last minute, accommodated our changing schedule, and even offered a free camp session to make up for classes we paid for but couldn't attend. Plus, my son is *actually* learning to code.
A lot of businesses and organizations catering to kids interests are just out to make money - they play on parents' fears of failure and frequently provide little more than incremental help.
The CoderSchool delivers real value, and they communicate, and they accommodate. Wow.
