San Jose Chess Club

The SJ Chess Club hosted by AcademiCare offers chess education at the most affordable price with the highest quality level of instruction. We are solely dedicated to promoting chess to enhance their academic skills.

Our in-school elementary & middle school programs are continually the highest rated in the state and win several sections year after year at the annual CA Super States Chess Championships!

Through stories, games, and analogies, we introduce the game of chess to students in a fun and exhilarating way! Our amazing staff of Chess professionals has been teaching Chess Clubs successfully in Bay Area schools since 1999! We are the leaders in scholastic Chess in education.

In-school classes consist of dynamic instruction on Chess demonstration boards and computer peripherals, specialized activity books varying by Chess skill levels, official USCF tournament Chess sets, play, and practice time followed by evaluation and class reflection.

All students have the opportunity to earn medals, certificates, and many other great prizes. Each in-school session ends with a Swiss-style trophy tournament!  We also offer small group and private coaching as well as tournament preparation.  We can meet at the school site after Chess Club classes, nearby centers or libraries, or even at home.

Cara really enjoyed the chess class. But one day cried because she needed to beat a fifth /fourth grade player. I think dividing kids to the same level will be more effective for them. Thank you !

We are glad Cara enjoyed the class. We do divide students by chess skill level and never by age or grade. We follow the United States Chess Federation guidelines, and our students tend to be the most successful chess players in the entire state of California year after year! When students begin to compete in outside competition they'll be partnered and paired up just as we do in class.
