About
Tanaka Farms

OUR HISTORY

Tanaka Farms began with great-grandfather Teruo who immigrated from Hiroshima-ken, Japan. After making the arduous journey to California his son, grandfather George, was born in Dinuba. Farmer Tanaka is a "Sansei", a 3rd generation Japanese American, who was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California and has a degree in Agricultural Business.

Farmer Tanaka, his wife, Shirley, and his son, Farmer Kenny, own and operate Tanaka Farms which is an authentic working farm. Our 30-acres produce fruits & vegetables that supply our produce stand, provide for our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, and our various educational tours.

In 1998, Tanaka Farms decided to go to Responsible Farming Methods after land development forced them to move the farming operation from Irvine Center Drive and Bake Parkway. The farm is now situated in a valley in the heart of Irvine. It's hard to believe that this beautiful farm can exist among all of the development in Orange County!

Here at Tanaka Farms, we strive to grow the best quality produce for you and your family. Not only do we want to grow great produce for you, we think it is absolutely necessary for everyone to know where their food is coming from and how it is being grown. This is why we strongly believe in educating children and adults alike with our farm tours.

We want everyone who visits the farm to come away with a new found appreciation for food. We want to encourage more families to incorporate fresh produce into their lives and we believe that by providing a quality product and educating everyone about it, we can accomplish this.

Since 1940 we have been dedicated to providing all families with quality products and educational experiences. Health and fun are very important to us here at Tanaka Farms.

WHAT WE DO

Educational Tours - Our farm provides customers with things to do all year round. We host Strawberry Tours March through June, Watermelon Tours July through August, a Pumpkin Patch Tour from September to October.

Produce Stand - Tanaka Farms grows and harvests fresh produce right here on the farm by using responsible farming methods. We grow over 60 different crops throughout the year. Produce is harvested daily so we can deliver to you the freshest and best tasting produce that we can. The produce stand is open seven days a week all year, except for a short winter break after our Christmas Season in December. The fruits and vegetables available will vary throughout the growing season. Generally, we will have our sweet strawberries March to June, delicious cantaloupes and watermelons July and August, as well as various other produce that we grow.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) - Our CSA program is the easiest way to get all your produce year round. You can get a box every week or every other week and pick up here at the farm, or at any of our numerous pick-up locations around Orange County. Along with our own freshly harvested produce, we supplement our boxes with other,  organic or pesticide-free fruits and vegetables. Responsible Farming Practices - On our farm we use Responsible Farming Practices. This means food safety is our top priority.  We do our best to follow "organic growing guidelines" but will deviate if necessary to save a crop.
