About
SF Spanish

SF Spanish is a unique group of Spanish teachers who are passionate about fostering fun and creative language learning opportunities for students of all levels and ages. Our classes grow with our students, from Beginner to Advanced levels. There are no graduations or formal exams, just memorable conversations and teaching methods tailored to the students' needs.

SF Spanish's Children's Classes are engaging and interactive, and our instructors use a variety of teaching methods, depending on the learning level and interest of the child. We keep classes fun throughout the learning process using art, song, reading materials/activities, and mixed media in Spanish to help the children feel comfortable speaking and listening in their new language.

Our Staff

Romina Mancilla
Director of SF Spanish

I was born in Quilmes, a province of Buenos Aires, and have been living in San Francisco for over a decade. My work and personal travel have taken me to many Spanish-speaking countries over the years, but Mexico has always been a major draw for me. Each time I visit, I like it more than before.

I love teaching my native language because it allows me to use my creativity, to share my knowledge of the language and culture, and to meet new people.  I enjoy sharing my travel experiences, daily life, and interests outside of teaching. I have been taking dance classes for years now, and dance is one topic that comes up frequently in class conversations since quite a few of my students also dance.

For me, the key to learning Spanish is to use it and speak it regularly.  When I arrived to the US, I began to study English and found that using it in a variety of formats was the most effective way for me to retain the language. I have also studied other languages over the years and I discovered that memorizing vocabulary and doing workbook exercises was not the best way to learn. Seeing this, I began to make an effort to use the language more by putting new words and concepts directly to use in conversation. When I started SF Spanish, I intentionally created a learning environment based on conversation. The "Spanish only" policy encourages students to think and speak -- and excel -- in their new language.  For this reason, I also created the interactive SF Spanish website for students to use outside of the classroom. Here, they can interact with other students and continue to write, read, and listen to the Spanish language.

Hi, my name is Ruddy Arcia, I’m 27 years old and I’m a Nicaraguan psychology magma cum laude graduate from Universidad Centro Americana (UCA).

I currently live with my loving dog, Husky. I have 3 years of experience teaching kindergarten kids English as a second language using a multi-sensory methodology that takes into consideration different learning styles. I also have extensive knowledge of Applied Analysis Behavior (ABA Therapy) for youngsters. It allows for a powerful way to build rapport with kids, as they learn through song, dialogue, poems, and games. My primary goal for students is to engage them deeply in the learning process while having fun.

I’m very excited to work at SF Spanish and to help other people meet their language goals!

I started by signing up two reluctant kids for the children's summer camp. After two days they told me they loved it and couldn't wait for the next day. Big win! Esteban and Viviana are wonderful and fun instructors. I wish we could have done more weeks of camp. The entire staff is very helpful and kind (I had a lot of questions). I particularly like the small class sizes and the balance between fun and actual learning of vocabulary, verbs, sentence structure, etc.

Hi! Thank you for contacting us! Our summer camp will be divided into groups according to students' experience or no experience with the Spanish Language. If you sign your daughter up, we will take this information into account and we will assign her the best group accordingly. In addition, if you have the syllabus of the topics covered and when was the last time she took Spanish, it would be of great help. Please do not hesitate to write back with further questions. -
Is this for beginners or advanced? Can you give me an example of the types of themes that will be covered? Are materials included? Thanks DA (Spanish Summer Camp ages 6-10) -

Hi! Thank you for contacting us! Our summer camp will be divided into 2 groups advanced and beginners according to their experience or no previous experience with the Spanish Language. The themes haven't been assigned to the weeks yet, but these are some examples on what the students have done. They work on the summer vacation plans or places they visited, their favorite things to do. Other themes had been the environment, places to visit during the summer time. We will provide the material. It is included. I hope I have answered all your questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions or clarification. -
Do kids need to speak Spanish? I'm a native speaker and my daughter understands some but doesn't want to speak it and I am trying to encourage it. Also, she is 6. Is the age limit strict? She is in first grade so used to being one of the younger ones as most of her classmates are 7. (Children's Group Advanced Online) -

Hi! Yes, all kids need to speak in Spanish in this class. Also, in terms of the age we can be somehow flexible but 6 is a bit too young to be able to understand some of the grammar concepts that are taught in this class. We have a class for younger children also full immersion, where they sing, dance, play games and are learning the alphabet in Spanish. Also, children in this class are completely fluent. On Thursdays, we have a class that it's tailor for beginners ages 6-8 and she can participate in that class as well. Children in this class are learning how to read, write and speak in Spanish. We're also offering a camp next week and we only have one spot available this can be an opportunity for your daughter to try our program and see if we are a good fit. Everyone in the camp will be a beginner. Please let us know if you have further questions and we'll be happy to assist you. -
