Your child needs to be able to read basic words such as backdrop, code, sound, repeat used in the Scratch environment, type keyboard, and control mouse pointer.
If your child is not able to read, type, or control mouse pointer, you or other guardians need to present and help your child.
Also, your child needs to be able to share screen and stop sharing the screen with Zoom without parents' assistance, and to be able to drag a block within the Scratch screen.
If your child is not able to drag and drop blocks within the Scratch screen and share/stop sharing screen within 15 minutes of instruction, your child is too young for the Zoom based coding class. If this is the case, please do not sign up this summer. RISU may cancel the reservation to maintain the class quality.
Please use a PC or a Mac. Tablets do not work properly in both Zoom and Scratch at the same time. Many older Chromebooks also have a performance problem when running both Zoom and Scratch. If you use Chromebook, please check the performance prior to the signup.
RISU requires having two monitors (PC/Mac + Additional device) as your child requires full screen for Scratch coding. The additional device allows your child to use a full screen for Scratch programming while watching Zoom with another monitor.
Since the instructor needs to check your child's progress and assist your child by looking at your child's Scratch screen via Zoom, both Zoom and Scratch need to run on the same PC even you have an additional device.
