Overview

At Child Development Day, children are screened in a relaxed and friendly setting and parents have the opportunity to talk to professionals with expertise in childhood development, learning, behaviors, speech and language development, and childhood health issues.

This is part of enrollment for 4-year-old kindergarten in the Rice Lake Area School District, though we hope to see all of our area children up through age 5. To be eligible for 4K, the child needs to be 4 by September 1 of that school year.

Although there's always room for improvement at any big event, I felt the staff at the Child Development Day screenings really cared about my child. It wasn't the smoothest of events (I didn't like waiting until the end for a different staff member to quickly review the notes from others to determine if there were concerns or not), but I understand that they are using the information to better plan and prepare for 4K classes and into the future.

My daughter had fun at the screening but no one bothered to go over any concerns until the end and the person who was concerned had left already. This is pretty much the only option for school but I wouldn't recommend the screening.
