Rex K-12

Rex K-12 was founded in 2015 by Sandhya (Sandy) Padala, who, like millions of parents, struggled to find a quality computer science program for her children. When her nine-year-old son expressed an interest in learning to make video games, she realized his school didn’t offer computer science courses—a common issue, as only 32 computer science teachers graduated nationwide in 2017. Determined to provide him with an education, she began teaching him herself. Soon, his friends joined in, and eventually, his school asked if she could run summer camps in computer science. She agreed, and what started as two camps quickly expanded to 45.

However, Sandhya knew that not all families could afford these camps. Having grown up in poverty herself—in a 300-square-foot home in India with her family of five—she understood the transformative power of computer science. It had changed her life, and she wanted to ensure all children, regardless of background, had the same opportunity to succeed. That’s why she founded Rex K-12.

Since then, students have spent over 500,000 hours on our platform. In Texas, we helped a school improve its pass rate on the Advanced Placement Computer Science exam from 70% to 100%. Our remote teachers have also been a crucial resource for schools facing teacher shortages. Impressively, 95% of the students we've tracked have gone on to major in computer science.
