Pan Association

Pan Association is a music education program in Littleton, Colorado based around the steel drum, an acoustic instrument that originated in Trinidad and Tobago. 

The steel drum or steel ‘pan’ is extremely accessible to students of all ages due to its ease of learning and unique sound. It is performed in a group setting as a ‘steel band’ with a class full of students collaborating and splitting the duties to cover all the voices in the steel orchestra. 

No sheet music is used in a steel band rehearsal, but rather the traditional rote method of learning each passage of music through demonstration and repetition. It is an extremely versatile instrument that can communicate anything from pop music to calypso, reggae, funk and many more. 

The instructors support the band and keep the music in time and grooving on drum set and percussion.

Our Staff

Instructors are both holders of Masters degrees in percussion and each have over 15 years of teaching experience. They have also traveled to Trinidad and Tobago for enrichment study on the pan and learned the cultural traditions that have proven to be successful over decades.
