About
Kid Stock

Our Mission

Building self confidence is no easy task, but at Kid Stock, we believe that everyone should have the chance to shine. Our mission is to help children from all backgrounds realize their potential through musical theater and self-expression.

Our Philosophy

At Kid Stock we have a motto, "Everyone Shines," and our programs bring that motto to life. Offering introductory instruction to musical theater through workshops in drama, voice, visual art, and dance, Kid Stock specializes in fostering safe environments where social emotional learning is possible for children of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. All of our shows are originals, written to include a part for every student and to share a positive message to both participants and audience.

Each part of our curriculum promotes different skills: singing exposes children to music theory and performance, dance helps them to get active and comfortable with physicality, art allows them to see the world in new ways and develop an artistic voice, and drama unleashes creativity and encourages team building. As a whole, our programming offers a platform for social emotional learning, which has far-reaching effects for all children, including increased interest in school and reduced rates of depression among adolescents. By spending a couple of hours a week putting on a small-scale musical, the kids take home big gains that will continue to serve them both in the classroom and throughout their educational journey.

In addition to the fundamentals of performing, we sneak something extra special into our instruction: acceptance. (And not just for oneself, but for each other, too.) Our programs encourage kids to support each other in all their endeavors, marking success not by technical accuracy but by bravery and confidence. We want every child to feel good about stepping up to the mic, and a supportive audience makes a big difference. By promoting pro-social behaviors, we set kids up for success as learners, team members, and citizens.

Our History

Founded by mother-daughter duo Jane Anne Sullivan and Noel Donovan, Kid Stock has brought its unique brand of performing arts education to children throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years. At the time of Kid Stock’s inception, sports programs for children were in abundance, but few arts-centered options were available. Jane Anne and Noel launched an after-school program where kids could sing, dance, and play while making meaningful connections with like-minded art lovers. Initially cherished by just a few families in the Inner Sunset neighborhood of San Francisco, Kid Stock’s in-school, after-school and summer programs have expanded across the Bay Area, reaching 2,000 kids each year.

My 6 and 9 year old loved this camp. They were nervous to perform at first, but the counselors helped them bloom!

Kid Stock is special. All of the kids treasure their time there; when the session is over they're all making plans for next year. It's really amazing to watch their love for this program.

This was our first year with Kid Stock and I put both my sons aged 8 and 6 (their first theatre/performing arts experience outside of school). My older artsy kid loved it and wants to do it again next year. My younger, sporty son, was a little slow to warm but he still enjoyed it and learned all the songs and lines. I think if the younger had a buddy with him going in, his opinion would be diff as this is his first summer in camps.

What I liked: Established non profit so the teachers (dance, voice, etc) are graduated campers who have been with the oldest aged group kids. If your child loves this and continues from Elementary into Middle School, every summer they have a theatre community to re-join which I think is wonderful and valuable.

Kid Stock also offers financial aid which helped us be able to afford this 3 week camp. And yes, it's 3 weeks so eliminates some of the planning when it comes to summer camp. Regular camp ends at 3p so there is still time to do martial arts or piano lessons etc for those who have that schedule. Before and after care also avail.

I'm grateful for organizations like this as they provide a safe environment for kids to explore, create and execute self expression! Kid Stock also operates during the school year and tries to est programs at schools that lack performing arts. Kudos to them!
