Student-Teacher Ratio 6:1
We've moved beyond paper-bag and sock-puppet territory. Each student in this camp will build a muppet-style hand-and-rod puppet from scratch, then choose a 2nd project based on the technical skills they want to learn. All students will learn:
- to make a sturdy, flexible 3-dimensional puppet head structure from 2-dimensional materials
- To cover the puppet with fleece using a pattern, hot glue and/or hand sewing.
- To build an internal hand structure giving the puppet pose-able fingers, a magnetic attachment point, and both top and bottom sockets for removable control rods
- To design a puppet's features using a mix of materials
For their 2nd project students may choose from one of 3 mini-puppet options
- Rubber-band-mouth puppet
- "Glove Bug" puppet
- Tube-spring puppet
OR build any of the following features for their hand-and rod puppet:
- blinking eyes
- ears that move/wiggle
- a nose or mustache that can be controlled to create more specific facial expressions
This camp ends in a "meet the puppets" interactive event for an invited audience of family and friends.
