Overview

Student-Teacher Ratio 7:1

Campers will learn to use The Roblox Editor, a special coding environment, to create complete projects in Roblox! Campers will use Lua programming to add features to their games throughout the week. This exciting camp takes an activity your child loves and turns it into an educational adventure!

Our camp instructors are STEM.org Master Trainer certified, having completed 25 hours of STEM.org instructor accreditation.

Monday:

Icebreakers
Introduction to digital citizenship as Roblox is a multiplayer online game
Introduction to the basics of privacy, security, and online communities
Introduction to Roblox
Introduction to Roblox Studio, the essential building platform for building Roblox games
Introduction to programming basics of variables and concatenation
Start the creation of a story game: story idea brainstorming, creating placeholders, opening the template, opening the script
Start creating the Roblox world, to create a replica of the Parthenon in Athens, Greece
Introduction to using terrain tools

Tuesday:

Introduction to the Explorer window
Creation of a SpawnLocation, introduction to camera controls
Introduction to parts and platforms
Introduction to levels and end zones
Introduction to team creation, which allows multiple players to collaborate and work on the same game
Introduction to creating an adventure game, which is a more complex project
Introduction to game mechanics
Introduction to pre-production
Introduction to game planning, creation of a game vision document
Creation of a leaderboard
Creation of items and tools
Adding capabilities to the tools
Creation of a selling platform
Introduction to game upgrades

Wednesday:

Introduction to Battle Royale games, which is a multiplayer game genre where opponents compete until only one player is left
Revisit the steps of developing a game, plan and envision, design a test map, code and test, and polish and improve
Introduction to game loop design, which involves intermission, competition, clean-up and reset
Coding and testing of the game loop

Thursday:

Adding more features to the Battle Royale game
Introduction to player managing as players can come and go, this is managed with a player-manager script
Introduction to game GUI (graphical user interfaces), where players can see game status and information

Friday:

Adding final touches to the Battle Royale game
Creation of a respawn feature that allows players who are defeated to re-enter the game after a countdown period
Adding a timer-based ending to the game
Adding end-of-game statistics
Additional game improvements, improving map visuals
Optional challenges, traps, tracking score, powerups, additional arenas
End-of-camp presentations in front of parents: parents are invited to arrive at 3.30 pm for end-of-camp presentations, 30 minutes before the regular end-of-camp time
