Overview

I Don't Wanna Grow Up Kids Camp is all about kids being free to play in the outdoors. We will take them to some of the most beautiful locations on the peninsula and let them enjoy nature in the way they'd like. It's a awesome opportunity that is becoming more and more rare these days. If we're doing our job your children will come home happy, tired and dirty.

The places we will travel include Dog Beach at the Mavericks, San Gregorio State Beach, Pomponio State Beach, Foothill Park, Portola Redwoods Park, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Huddart Park, Stulsaft Park and others. Each location is designed to provide growth, exploration and a great opportunity for varied play.

Climbing trees, swimming, playing in the creek, rope swings, catching crayfish, building sandcastles, good old imaginative play are just some of the nearly endless free play options available to kids at camp. This is where a kid can truly be a kid. Your children will be able explore, learn and imagine with us, all at some of the best outdoor play locations in the beautiful California Bay Area.

Because every kid deserves a chance:

The cost of our camp is $100 per day per child. It's worth every penny. For every six children who pay tuition we will enroll one child without the financial means to attend. This is something I believe in strongly.  Your choice to enroll your child in this camp will directly help a child who cannot otherwise afford summer camp to attend with him/her.

For the love:

I worked for a decade in marketing. It was a good career for me. I enjoyed my work. I enjoyed the people I worked with. But my passion has always been with children and animals. I have remade my career in this endeavor and its all about the love and the joy. This camp is about the kids and my job is facilitate their fun and bring them back home to you. When you see me if I'm smiling ear to ear its because I'm the happiest person in the world and with good cause.

Daily schedule:

We will meet at the scheduled pick up and drop off site each day at 8:30am. Children will be checked in and parents can say their goodbyes and then leave. The kids will play for about an hour at the site. This gives them a chance to be out of the car, meet other kids and staff, as well as release the wiggles.

After play time we will load up and drive to the days wonderful outdoor location. Typical arrival is around 10:30am. After that the kids will play until lunch. After lunch they return to free play until it is time to pack up and leave (That time will vary based on number of kids and distance to travel).

By 4:30pm we will return to the pick up site where you can claim your happy, dirty and tired children. If you cannot make it by 4:30pm we will provide after care for the children from 4:30pm-5:30pm at a cost of $10 per child for the hour.

My 5 year old went to 6 different camps last summer through Palo Alto (Enjoy), Stanford, and Legarza - this was by far his favorite. He has asked that he only do this camp next year. He got to go to various locations around the Bay Area and explore nature. It was definitely his only camp where he was a kid being a kid. Will definitely do this next year!

This camp was not like any camp we have gone to in the past. In hindsight, we should have read between the lines of what the camp was really offering. However, we do not want others to miss the signs we did. Our experience was as follows:
Our kids were driven in a bus to to a neighborhood public park with water features. There was 1 adult for 11 kids. The adult stayed near the park bench and was on the phone or lying down on the bench so there was no supervision. There was also no engagement or activity planning by the camp. This is probably the intent with “free play”, but we did not realize that and I wanted the next family to be aware. The kids were asked to use the public bathrooms to change into swim wear and afterwards came home in their swim clothes (although mostly dried off). There was a snack break where the kids were offered ice cream. We decided to not send the kids after the first day. The 1 star is to convey that we would not recommend this camp to anyone unless they need immediate help as this camp does do walk-ins.

We keep our ratio at 8:1 children to adults. We use counselors 18 or above unless they are the 3rd or 4th counselor with a group. -
Do you have an updated mask policy? Your program sounds great, but unless everyone is masked except when socially distanced eating and drinking, we will look elsewhere. (Outdoor Free Play for Kids) -

I will be updating our COVID policies. Employees will wear masks during transit. Due to individual health concerns I will not require children to wear masks outdoors. That decision will rest with individual parents. -
Any way there is extended care in the morning for an 8:00am drop off? (Outdoor Free Play for Kids) -
