TANYA HERRERA • Pyrographer
I am a 34 year old first generation Costa Rican American, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have made art for as long as I can remember and was the only career I wanted to pursue when I was a child. As I grew older I kept dabbling more and more in modern art techniques after having tried traditional mediums throughout middle school, high school and into college, I was constantly asking myself "what else is there".
At the age of 25, I found pyrography by trying to make the impression of a stencil on a piece of wood as a unconventional medium.
In an age where 3D printing and laser cutting is prolific, I see more personality in making art by hand. In contrast, the San Francisco Bay Area where I grew up and Costa Rica the country which my parents were raised in, have become havens and prolific in the most modern technology in the world.
LAURA C. CASTANEDA • Graphic Designer / Animator
I am a graphic designer and traditional animation student in San Francisco. I received my Bachelor's Degree from Universidad Tecnológica de Guadalajara (UTEG,) a university in Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. I am working on getting my Masters at the Academy of Art University. I worked 2 years in Mexico in the scrapbook world giving classes of how to use scrapbook tools until I took the risk of pursuing my dream career in animation. I am currently residing in San Francisco.
You can see some of the work I've collaborated with in my previous work's Instagramaccount. We can definitely explore some of the art forms I helped created. Looking forward to the summer art classes.
C.G.LEONG • Crafter | Upcycler | Repurposer
"Every child is an artist! It is how to remain one once you grow up," quoted by Picasso.
This is a true statement. As kids, we loved creating, drawing, doodling, etc. And then we stopped, or were never encouraged as we got older. I say one should stay creative all the days of his/her life. It makes life more "colorful"!
I'm excited to share with you (young and old) making quality art out of found objects. Upcycling and repurposing materials are not only eco-friendly, but can be useful. wearable, and beautiful. You'll learn to see something old or "no use for" become something new and artful. We will be repurposing items that are otherwise neglected or just thrown away.
Another project I want to share is Zentagling. It's a relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. This can be done on any material (denim, canvas, leather, wood, etc.) I usually zentangle on canvas bags and/or denims.
