Overview

Open to Everyone Interested in Learning German!

Join us this summer for a journey filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable memories.

Enrollment is open to current GISSV families and members of the San Francisco and Mountain View communities. Our summer camps are designed to provide enriching experiences for ages 3.6 to 14 and offer something special for everyone. From our immersive German pedagogy tailored for the youngest learners, featuring hands-on projects and outdoor activities, to our signature academic German language classes paired with afternoon fun exploring art, music, science, sport, movement and dozens of other enriching themes, there's an adventure waiting for every child.

The camp is scheduled to run from June 30th to August 1st, 2025, with no sessions on July 4. Full-day programs are available for preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students, from 9 am to 4 pm. Half-day options are also offered for preschool and kindergarten attendees, from 9 am to 12 pm. Additionally, morning and afternoon extended care is available if needed.

  • No prior German language required.
  • Intermediate and Advanced level classes are designed to meet the needs of our current students and other children fluent in German.

Camp Times:

  • Full Day Summer German Academics and Enrichment Activity for Grades 1-8 - 9am to 4pm

Elementary School Camp: Age 6 - 9 & Middle School Camp: Age 10 - 14

Morning German classes are separated into language level groups (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) with max. 15 students and one teacher. In the classroom, instructors teach in German exclusively, no matter the level of German. Our morning German language classes are complemented by an exciting afternoon program that immerses students in sports, music, art, and other activities. While primarily conducted in German, some activities may include English.

AM German Acadamics Course - Grades 1-8 (9am to 12pm)

You will be asked to choose the level of German during registration:

Beginner Level: Lessons cover basic communication (introductions, asking questions), phonetics, spelling, vocabulary with articles, negation, and verb conjugation (sein, haben). Ideal for students: New to German.

Intermediate Level: Lessons focus on context-aware communication, writing short sentences and stories, conjugating common verbs, using present and past tenses, and correct preposition usage. Ideal for students who: Communicate well in German but lack reading and writing skills. Have attended 1–2 years of GISSV, Saturday School, or a similar program.

Advanced Level: Lessons emphasize role-play, complex narratives, writing longer stories, and mastering present, perfect, and past tenses, along with reviewing personal and possessive pronouns. Ideal for students who: Can communicate, read, and write in German. Have 3–4 years of experience at GISSV, Saturday School, or a similar program.


PM Enrichment Activity Camps Grades 1-8 (1pm to 4pm)

You will be asked to choose from the following enrichment courses during registration:

3D Pen Studio - Designed to inspire the engineers and designers of tomorrow. Each day of the week, students embark on a new journey, whether it's designing a prototype, crafting unique jewelry, or tackling exciting team-based challenges like building a bridge or tower. These hands-on activities promote creative thinking, self-expression, and teamwork, equipping students with valuable skills for their future. Our step-by-step lessons ensure that every student, regardless of their experience level.

Flight School - Students will explore the principles of aerodynamics and engineering. Throughout the program, they will engage in various hands-on projects, including competing in a paper airplane challenge, constructing Estes model rockets, designing and launching bottle rockets, and creating and flying their own kites. These activities are designed to foster creativity, problem-solving skills, and teamwork among the participants. 

Junior Chef - This fun and educational program allows young chefs to explore a wide range of delicious recipes, from creamy homemade ice cream to delightful vegetarian sushi. Each class is designed to teach essential cooking skills, foster creativity, and encourage healthy eating habits. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students will learn to measure, mix, and prepare a variety of dishes, gaining confidence in the kitchen. Our hands-on approach ensures that every child, regardless of their experience level, can participate and enjoy the art of cooking.

Intro to Stop Motion Animation - This program teaches students how to create captivating short stop motion videos using an iPad and a variety of props/clay. Students develop essential skills in storytelling, script writing, character and set design, and voice-over sound effects. Guided by experienced instructors, students will transform their imaginative ideas into animated masterpieces, learning the intricacies of frame-by-frame animation. Each session encourages creativity, technical proficiency, and teamwork, providing a comprehensive understanding of the animation process. This class is ideal for students entering grade 3 and above.

GISSV reserves the right to modify or expand the summer activities program at its discretion to include new offerings.

Registration will close on May 31st at 9 AM. Spaces are limited, so be sure to secure your child's spot soon! If your summer plans change and you wish to sign up for camp after the registration deadline, reach out to the camps team. Please note that a late registration fee of 10% will be applied to registrations starting June 1st.

Late pick up fee - A late pick up fee in the amount of $20 for every 10 minutes after the initial grace period will be assessed at pick up.
