"My daughter had a lot of fun, probably the most fun she's had during a Zoom class or workshop this year! She's definitely looking forward to doing it again." -Henry, parent of 9yo
Spend time as an adventuring hero, working with friends to complete quests and save the world! Dungeons & Dragons is a creative storytelling adventure set in a medieval world with magic and monsters. Each student crafts their own unique adventuring hero, and together they use magic, might, and smarts to solve puzzles, investigate mysteries, negotiate with fantastical creatures, outwit foes, defeat monsters, and save the world! While the Story Teller (instructor) creates the setting, how the story unfolds depends entirely on the students' choices!
In customized pods of 4 student-heroes and 1 Story Teller, Gaming Together’s D&D activities provide real social connection and engagement unlike any other online program. Cooperative gaming teaches teamwork, communication skills, imagination, negotiation, problem-solving, strategy, and more. Dungeons & Dragons has been shown to develop social skills, confidence, perspective-taking, self-regulation, and resilience. Our D&D camps will unleash your child's imagination in a world created through peer interaction.
Gaming Together players also develop vital STEM skills. Dungeons & Dragons provides a fun way to practice one of the most pivotal aspects of learning: failure. Players try out an idea (hypothesis) and measure the success of that theory by the results in the story. Actively engaged students pull from all the academic subjects they are familiar with, which helps them gain a deeper understanding of the academic material. STEM skills are heavily supported— everything players do in the game is affected by physics, chemistry, biology, and principles of math and engineering.
Gaming Together’s 5-day Summer Camps run June 6th to September 2nd. Advanced D&D players are welcome to join our popular Story Telling classes, where they’ll learn how to run their own D&D campaigns and develop skills related to creative writing, organization, and leadership.
Our Story Tellers (STs, fka DMs) are young adults with experience running D&D and a commitment to mentoring and working positively with kids, trained by our lead instructor in Gaming Together's unique way of supporting growth and development. Dungeons & Dragons unlocks the imagination and is a collaborative and social activity that offers real social connections even in the online format.
Gaming Together is founded on the principle of acceptance. We meet each child where they are, and help them identify and practice steps to improve where needed—without ever shaming or blaming them. We tell them constantly, "Everyone is working on something—even the adults around you!" In addition, we emphasize that every brain has its unique pet peeves, gifts, and challenges, and we help kids learn to express what they need from a place of tolerance rather than blame (of self or other). We are an inclusive Game Space and welcome young people of all genders, those who are LGBTQ, and those with ASD and ADHD.
"He had not played before, so thank you for the extra coaching that helped him catch up. The Story Teller was so polite and made it a fun experience!" -Mother of 9-year-old
