Overview

Parenting through the toddler years: Five-Week Series

Workshop series for parents/caregivers with children 12-36 months

  • How do I respond to tantrums and meltdowns?

  • What are some alternatives to “then you’ll loose your dessert” or “then you’ll loose your screen time” to motivate behavior?

  • What is the so called “critical period” of brain development and how you can optimize brain development and self confidence in the early years?

  • How can I encourage independent play so I can work/get things done?

  • What are alternatives to screen time time that will keep my child relatively quiet and entertained?

  • What are indoor activities that will get energy out in a big way when we can't get outside?

The toddler years are a time of rapid growth and change. As toddlers gain new abilities and begin to desire more independence, they can also demonstrate challenging behavior-such as tantrums, refusing to cooperate, hitting, and biting—that leave even seasoned caregivers at a loss.

In this five-week series, parents have the opportunity to share more about their unique child, ask questions, and practice evidence-based positive discipline techniques with other parents of toddlers.

Weekly topics include:

  • Toddler sleep (night weaning, nap regressions, nightmares, transitioning to a toddler bed)

  • Potty training (when/how to begin, no-pressure strategies, and language/techniques to engage toddlers) - also available a la care here

  • Positive discipline strategies for challenging toddler behaviors like tantrums, refusing to cooperate, hitting, biting and more.

  • Preventative strategies to reduce challenging behaviors, including floor time, routines and rituals, and self-care for parents

  • Sensory and art activities (great alternatives to screen time) that will help to focus over- excited toddlers, create calming effects and help organize your child’s developing brain.

Please note that the Parenting Your Toddler Intro course (or the Toddler Transition course) is a prerequisite for the five-week series. If you are unable to take one of these classes prior to the series, please let us know, and we’ll work with you!

Learn new strategies (or brush up) on how to handle tricky toddler behavior, connect with your toddler, work on toddler sleep, potty training, and learn some sensory and art activities that are great alternatives to screen time!

This five week series includes potty training, toddler sleep and lots of positive discipline strategies for young toddlers. If you have always wanted to take the course, but could never make the scheduling work-now may be your golden opportunity!

I would highly recommend this course to any parent of a toddler! What a great course! Rebecca is an incredibly knowledgeable instructor who clearly is an expert in early childhood development. She handled the transition to Zoom format in a way that made the class flow beautifully and parents were able to engage with one another.

I have already recommended ECM's classes to other parents, and plan to take the next on in a year when my 2-year old becomes a 3-year old. The most useful aspect to me of the Toddler parenting class was discussing/troubleshooting real-world examples from our lives with our class. Rebecca would go through some pedagogy, and then we'd talk about what was happening for us with our kids and different ways to handle the situation based on what we'd just learned.

Close behind this in usefulness was the normalizing of being the parent of a toddler. Sitting in a room with 8 other parents of toddlers who are all going through the same things is amazing! You feel sane and supported. It's great!

Questions & Answers
Are recordings of the sessions available after each session? I have two little ones so the chances of being interrupted while it's live are high... (Parenting Through the Toddler Years) -

Yes. We provide the recording the next day. Many people (or their partners/spouses) utilize this for that very reason. The link will be available for two weeks after the class. -
