Wish it had a hands on component. Did not hold my daughters attention (6 yr). She was not very interested in talking about germs and viruses. She wanted to draw and write on the paper. We ended up leaving the call after 30 mins.

Thanks for your feedback about the COVID-19 Awareness workshop. So sorry to hear that your daughter was not interested during the workshop. Our goal for this workshop is to offer some scientific information about what viruses are, and how they are different from other germs, and the science behind why we are doing the things we are doing these days (how washing our hands with soap for 20 seconds breaks down the viral coat to inactivate it, for example). We have found that many of the girls are also in need of a bit of an outlet to talk about this topic, ask questions about it and even share their experiences with it, so we spend a little time doing that as well, because we see value in that. We do encourage the girls to draw or take notes if they wish, and several did and shared what they wrote at the end of the workshop. I wish it was more interesting to your Girl Scout, but thank you for trying out the workshop.

I’ll be honest.... my daughter is 7 years old and right off the bat she was disappointed that the only supplies needed were paper and pencil. I randomly was in & out of the room during the zoom and she was bored and not writing anything down. I listened in and while it was interesting information... it was hard to keep their attention. She ended up begging us to drop off the zoom several times... after 40 minutes She dropped off & said she was just bored. She asked me not to sign her up for any more. :-(

Thanks for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your Girl Scout was bored with the workshop. We try to keep the zoom meetings as interactive as possible, but we understand that many kids are zoomed-out these days. We provide a materials list on the registration page under the description of each workshop, so parents know what to expect in terms of materials before they sign their kids up. The goal of the workshop was to provide them with some scientific background on what viruses are, how they work, how our body fights germs, including viruses, and the science behind our preventative behaviors, such as why we was our hands for 20 seconds. Thanks for trying us out though.

Hi Deborah, Thanks for your message. It depends on which program you are inquiring about. Our Young Explorers classes (3-5 year olds) require parent participation during class. Parents sometimes stay for the first week of homeschool classes, and during Girl Scout workshops as well. Parents do not stay for after-school programs, Parents' Night Out or our camps. Hopefully, I covered the program you are interested in. If not, please let me know so I can clarify. Thanks for your interest, Tonya -
