I enjoyed the coding class, but found the cyber security class wanting. I am a Girl Scout leader and believe that when girls work on a badge they should fulfill the requirements of the badge AND learn something in the process. I think we earned some of the requirements of the coding badge, but I don’t think we learned very much in the cybersecurity class and I’m not sure how the Rube Goldberg exercise was related to cybersecurity. A little disappointing.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for your review and signing up your girls for our Girl Scout workshops. This is the first year the Girl Scouts have had the Cybersecurity badges, so we tried using their suggested activities for these workshops. We agree, after running a couple of these workshops, we are unsatisfied with the how the content, activities and requirements relate to the goal of each badge. We are also running into the issue that several requirements for badges overlap. Our Education Team is working on restructuring our workshops and designing our own activities for some of these new badges now that we have tried it once with lessons that were provided with the badges. Your feedback is appreciated as it helps us improve. Hoping you will try us again.

Hi Deborah, Thanks for your message. It depends on which program you are inquiring about. Our Young Explorers classes (3-5 year olds) require parent participation during class. Parents sometimes stay for the first week of homeschool classes, and during Girl Scout workshops as well. Parents do not stay for after-school programs, Parents' Night Out or our camps. Hopefully, I covered the program you are interested in. If not, please let me know so I can clarify. Thanks for your interest, Tonya -
