Overview

CODING WEEK

July 5-8 (4 days)
8:30am-4:30pm (8:30am-5:30pm extended hours)

Ages 6-8 - Young coders use “unplugged” activities to learn how computers work and the logic of programming, practice age-appropriate online coding skills, use color to program Ozobots, and create art related to computers and coding. Campers are encouraged to bring their own device or laptop, but we have a few to share.

Ages 8-11 - Campers practice keyboarding, learn coding commands to create fun apps and games they can play at home, program our Root iRobots, and use offline activities to understand computational thinking. Campers are encouraged to bring their own tablet or laptop (a physical keyboard is needed for coding projects for 8-11 year olds), but we have a few to share.

Click "See More Dates" to view both age groups.

Campers should bring two snacks, lunch and a water bottle each day, and wear close-toed shoes.

Our two boys (7 & 8) went to Coding camp at recently and I am overjoyed how the experience went. During Covid-days staff ensured the kids where healthy and having fun. Our boys took to coding better than I ever had! The games they played turning both boys into Jr. Coders with a desire to learn more. Thank you Discovery Science Center!

Hi Deborah, Thanks for your message. It depends on which program you are inquiring about. Our Young Explorers classes (3-5 year olds) require parent participation during class. Parents sometimes stay for the first week of homeschool classes, and during Girl Scout workshops as well. Parents do not stay for after-school programs, Parents' Night Out or our camps. Hopefully, I covered the program you are interested in. If not, please let me know so I can clarify. Thanks for your interest, Tonya -
