About
Devil's Gate Wrestling

The Devils Gate Wrestling Club is a youth wrestling club chartered by USA Wrestling in 2014 with the goal of introducing the local community to the sport of wrestling including training and instruction for competition.

Our focus is to provide the proper folk-style technique and foundation for competitive high school and college wrestling. Our coaching philosophy seeks to teach wrestlers how to motivate and challenge themselves. Wrestling is a sport that thrives on strong character, hard-work, dedication, determination, sacrifice, goal-setting, mental toughness, and discipline. The Devil's Gate Wrestling Club strives to implement and teach our youth wrestlers those core values and principles that are essential for success both on and off the wrestling mat.

Our Staff

Professor Donny Flowers has been on the mats since 1999. He began his Grappling career with the sport of wrestling while he was in High School in the state of Maine. As an active student athlete, he participated in Track & Field, Football, and Power Lifting, in addition to wrestling. Professor Donny went on to study Criminology at the University of Southern Maine. At USM he competed in Wrestling at the Varsity level. With his hard work and leadership qualities as an NCAA wrestler, he became Co-Captain of the USM wrestling team during his junior year. In the year of 2006, he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by his best friend. He worked his way up the ranks and competed as much as possible. Donny began competing in BJJ with only 3 months of experience. His wrestling background was a significant factor in his quick progress. At the Blue Belt level he began competing in MMA and by Purple Belt he set his goal to move to the Mecca of BJJ in the USA, Southern California. Since moving to California, he has continued to compete in BJJ and MMA. He has been teaching and training in California since 2009. He earned his Black Belt in BJJ in the year of 2014. Professor Donny believes Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that can be taught to everyone. He has experience teaching all different types of people. His youngest students are 2 years old and he has taught adults up to the age of 71 years old. His true passion is teaching children and also students with mental disabilities. As a young Filipino American growing up in an area with minimal cultural diversity, Donny was often bullied as a child. His father passed away while he was only 9 years old so he didn’t have a father figure to help him with bullies. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has given him the confidence he lacked as a child. With over 6 years of experience teaching kids Jiu Jitsu classes, Donny prides himself in the way he teaches children to defend themselves.

I hate they I found this class so late in the summer. My two boys dropped in on the class last week and they absolutely love it. The coaches are great with the kids and they really make them work hard. They pay attention to all the kids and have patients.

I would highly recommend this program. The coaches were very caring and helpful, especially for my grandchild who is brand new to the sport. They develop a feeling of camaraderie and good sportsmanship.
