Overview

Did you know that Afghanistan has a rich and colorful culture of music and dance?  Afghanistan has been a country most often narrowly defined in the media but the arts is a great way to learn about other cultures. Come learn the beautiful dance styles of Afghanistan with Samia Karimi!  Samia immigrated to the United States from Afghanistan at an early age.  Her curiosity to reconnect with her culture has brought her to the Bay Area where she has been dancing and performing with Ballet Afsaneh since 2015, under the artistic directorship of Sharlyn Sawyer, training in contemporary Persian dance with Aisan Hoss, and Nava Dance with world renowned Miriam Peretz. Samia’s previous dance training focused on both cabaret and tribal belly dance (2004 - 2007). With a deep love for dances of the Silk Road, Samia continues to study the historical evolution of music and dance in Central Asia with the hope of reviving dance in her homeland as well as bring awareness and understanding of Afghan culture through music and dance in Bay Area

Our daughter has been going to DanceVersity classes and camps for many years now, and she loves it! She's learned grace and coordination, had a great introduction to world cultures, and has made great friends. It's been a great experience!
