Celsius and Beyond

Our son loved this camp, and asked to do more baking camps over the summer. He enjoyed the baking, said the counselors were nice, and loved playing with the camp dog.

My 7 year old daughter (incoming 2nd grader) loved the camp. It seemed that each day they would hang out at the main building for a short bit before walking/busing to a different marine-related location in the city each day. They’d explore the area, learn some facts, eat lunch, and maybe dip their feet in the water or enjoy a nearby playground. Then they’d bus/walk back to arrive by 4:00. For my daughter’s session, they went to 1) Tunnel Tops playground/Crissy Field, 2) The California Academy of Sciences, 3) Pier 39 to see the sea lions, 4) Ocean Beach, and 5) Baker Beach. On day three, they also went to a different location to see a dog fish.

She wasn’t looking forward to the camp as it was a last minute add, but she had a really good time and was really glad she went. She also did aftercare and enjoyed the kind and fun counselors. She’s asking to do the metal working session when she’s old enough.

My daughter thought this class was fun and loved creating the jewelry. She thought the instructor was very knowledgeable and did a great job with everyone in the group.

It wasn’t what we hoped for. We were anticipating more chemistry / lab-involvement but it’s more art-making instead. My child had a lot of fun regardless.

Baking, baking and more... baking! My 8 year old enjoyed the Top Chef - Science of Baking very much and proudly presented us with some delicious baked goods every single day of camp! She also enjoyed free time, going to the playground & made new friends at Celsius and Beyond.

My son had a great time building a model Porsche, and learning how a vehicle works. It was a small class, by the end he felt very close to all of the people he spent the week with.

Second year in a row attending the camp. I am a stay at home mom, for our family a camp makes sense only if my kid will get in depth knowledge with educated and qualified staff. The fact that they do have specialists teaching allows the camp to introduce fun and unique classes, that you won't find around the Bay Area. My child is very happy in the camp socially, and gets challenged academically. He still talks about things he learned hiking with the staff environmentalist, and he can't stop talking about surgery this year.

My son Alex liked it so much he even wanted to do the urban explore again.

My son loved making knick-knacks and jewelry in the Metalsmith class. He would definitely recommend it.

My two children have been happy Celsius campers for several years, in sessions focusing on baking chemistry, surgery and dissection, local San Francisco natural history and ballistics. I was thrilled when my 6 year old son came home able to identify local birdsong, and the following year when he proudly showed off his potato launcher. My 8 year old daughter was so enthralled with dissection camp that we brought home a few vials of "samples" for further discussion. When I dropped them off each day, I knew they were in the hands of passionate scientific students and professionals who are eager to share their excitement for their fields. Auritte Ross, the director, and her staff project enthusiasm that was and is contagious, and I would highly recommend Celsius and Beyond to anyone with a curious child.

My son is a bit of a curmudgeon and doesn't like much but he LOVED Celsius and Beyond's Ballistics camp last week. LOVED it! It was very hands on and they built a potato cannon. What 9 year old boy doesn't want to build a potato cannon?

My 3 children attended Celsius two years ago and since then our family become fervent followers and participants of this quality program. Their instructors are professionals and hold advance degrees and connect well with kids. Their classes are geared to teach kids real science that follows a curriculum, not just play-based stuff. The Director of the program is a woman with a deep understanding of child-behavior. She has an innate ability to read a child’s personality and make necessary adjustments to keep the children engaged and interested. I was completely blown away when my children came home from their first day at camp and enthusiastically discussed DNA and described in great detail the parts of a chromosome. All the camps have similar impact on them.
I can say with all confidence that if your child loves science and attends this camp once, your child will become a life-long Celsius and Beyond camp participant. Celsius and Beyond is truly beyond any one’s expectations when it comes to teaching real science in a fun way.

The camp's motto "real science, serious fun" is accurate. One of my kids has attended four programs, another three. Even years after attending the camps, they fairly regularly talk about things in their life using the vocabulary and explanations from Celsius' camps. That's what science education should be about -- giving kids a deeper perspective about the world around them. Kids are usually able to understand a lot more than adults (and schools :) ) give them credit for. The people running Celsius seem to know this and don't patronize to the kids. Where else would you find kids as young as six doing experiments in metallurgy (jewelry making), neuroscience (visiting a lab at UCSF to see a human brain), aerodynamics (building various forms of flying machines), chemistry (while cooking fun treats), and genetics (analysis of their own DNA via 23andme.com).

We signed up our kids for Celsius camp after friends told us about it. The impact this place had on our kids exceeded our expectations. Our daughter took genetics camp and by the end of the week she decided to become a geneticist. Two years later she still feels strongly about becoming a geneticist. My son who excels in math loves the math and robotics camps. He was on the FIRST League and took robotics camps and loved it. Not only did he
feel challenged, he also made new friends who have the same interests.

The staff at Celsius has impressive credentials and connects well with the kids. I am a mathematician myself and appreciate what this place is doing for my kids. The topics change all the time so my kids always feel like they want to go back and learn new things. I love it when they return at the end of each day and can't stop talking about what they have learned. The place is nothing fancy and small which is fine by me. It's what goes inside that matters most. Celsius made a great impact on our family and I will recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning science as it was meant to be taught.

Pascal's triangle, Golden Ratio, etc. were only some of the concept presented to the Ancient Greek Math camp this summer: great introduction stuff that most people won't hear about until high school. The daily hands-on activities were also well received as well as the trips to the local playground. Definitely not a boring, low-brow camp.

My kids love Celsius and Beyond camp. I love the fact that the classes are pitched higher than average - the class size is good and it is a true testimony to the fact that great learning does not need to take place in fancy surroundings. It is the curriculum, and the chemistry between teachers, children and the curriculum that makes for long lasting aspirational learning.
