My kids have attended Hummingbird camp a few times. My son did a session over mid-winter break, and both my kids joined for two weeks over summer break. They both loved it - even during the mid-winter camp when there was a lot of rain and mud. They have fun adventures that they come home talking about. That said, my kids love spending time outdoors, and we give them the right clothes to handle what the weather throws at them. If your kids like to spend time outside, your kids will have a great time!

We definitely had some concerns about our child's specific needs, safety and supervision after her first day of camp, That said, Kathy was a good communicator about them and our kid ended up having a positive experience overall. I think (like most camps) this one comes down to whether or not the camp is a good fit for your kid. If they are comfortable with minimal structure and supervision make new friends easily and love to play outside all day, they'll probably love it. Just wasn't quite right for our kid, now we know.

My six year old attended this camp in Mountain View two summers ago and we were disappointed that the camp did not take adequate safety precautions with some of the kids. A few weeks before we attended, we heard that a child had wandered off but it seemed like an accident that could happen even with the most well-meaning staff so we decided not to withdraw. Our kid had a wonderful time. They let the kids run wild in nature and the kids love it. We later found out, however, that a teenager had driven the kids to their destination every day and that the camp directors did not use the latch systems on the kids' carseats. I was surprised but, ultimately, I let it go and simply decided not to send my child back. I've now heard, though, that this past summer several of the kids ended up being taken to the hospital after being allowed to climb rock structures at the beach unsupervised. This was enough of a track record for me to feel like it was finally time to write a review. This camp model is so fun and the kids seem so happy there, but the safety issues seem to have hit a critical level.

I would like to clear up several inaccuracies. The teenager you are referring to was one month short of turning twenty at the time and was extremely mature for her age.
As for using the latch systems on the car seats, all staff are hyper-vigilant in making sure they are in place and secure. Arriving safely at our destinations is a primary concern. I'm so sorry you didn't address this issue with me at the time.
Concerning the rumor you heard about "several of the kids" being taken to the hospital I would like to clarify what really happened. First of all, the children at Cool Coyote Kids Camp are never unsupervised. Secondly, our camp kids are never allowed to climb rock structures. Unfortunately two young girls did require medical attention after slipping and falling while hiking. Such events are extremely rare but are obviously not completely unavoidable when kids are playing in nature. We have an excellent safety record.
This mobile camp model is so fun and provides an excellent opportunity for children to explore and learn about nature. I’m sorry you pulled your child out without speaking to me first about your concerns.
