Overview

Our camp is focused on exploring and playing in nature. The goal of this camp is to let children be children, letting them play in nature while learning about their surroundings and the balance in nature.

Each day we take a small group of children and after meeting up for circle in the morning, we head off to different local state parks, beaches, creeks and farms.

Some of our past adventures include:

  • A day trip to Harley Goat Farm to look for frogs in the pond, visit the goats, pig and the Alpaca before heading to Pescadero beach to play. (We do not go into the ocean waves.)
  • A day trip to Half Moon Bay we might hike to see some horses or swing on a cool rope swing before heading to one of the local beaches to play. Depending on the beach we might dig for crystals at “dog beach”, build sand castles and explore the tide pools or
build a driftwood fort at San Gregorio State Beach.
  • Hiking through the Redwoods at Memorial County Park or Purisima Creek to play at the creek. We try to catch and release crawfish, count the banana slugs along the way and look for newts.
  •  A day trip to Hidden Villa to see their big garden, the farm animals and hike in the forest to play at the creek.

On all of our adventures, we have seen everything from the smallest insects, frogs, banana slugs, turkeys and deer to watching whales spouting and birds of prey flying.

Please, make sure to pack a snack and a lunch for your child and provide a booster seat if your child is under 8 years and 80 pounds.

Regarding COVID Precautions:

We will have 12 children per group or less in the van and at this point masks are optional.

Children will need to bring their own snacks along with their lunch and water bottle.

When the children are outside playing it is suggested that they do not wear their mask.

My daughter had a great time when she went for a day. She liked being surprised by where they went and playing in the water (although she wishes she’d been warned how cold it was!).

Great play based camp. Kids are picked up in a van and taken to a new outdoor adventure each day. They listen to audiobooks on the way. Kathy (the owner) was kind and patient. My son was completely pooped out each day. If you want a safe, unstructured environment for kids to just be kids outdoors this is the camp for you!

Apologies, but we do require that all campers are 5 at the time of the camp. Please enroll your son next year, and we hope to see your daughter this year! -
Hi, My daughter is 5 years and my son is 10 years. Will both the children be together for camp? I ask as my little one is not yet ready to go to new places totally on her own but is a confident young one if her brother is along. Thanks! (Hummingbird Kids Spring Break Camp) -

Yes, your kids will be in the same group! -
I'm wondering how strict the age range is? I have a 4 year old who would love to do a camp with her 7 year old brother. She's fully potty trained... thanks! (Hummingbird Kids Spring Break Camp) -

Hello! Thank you for your question. The children need to be 5 years old to come to camp. That said, if your daughter is close to being 5 we can make an exception so she can come to camp with her brother. Best to call me to discuss your daughter coming to camp. Thanks again! Kathy, 650-400-3054 -
I was wondering what one say drop-off options you have for the reminder of the school year? Thanks (Hummingbird Kids Spring Break Camp)
