Overview

Our camp is focused on exploring and playing in nature. The goal of this camp is to let children be children, letting them play in nature while learning about their surroundings and the balance in nature.

Each day we take a small group of children and after meeting up for circle in the morning, we head off to different local state parks, beaches, creeks and farms.

Some of our past adventures include:

  • A day trip to Harley Goat Farm to look for frogs in the pond, visit the goats, pig and the Alpaca before heading to Pescadero beach to play. (We do not go into the ocean waves.)
  • A day trip to Half Moon Bay we might hike to see some horses or swing on a cool rope swing before heading to one of the local beaches to play. Depending on the beach we might dig for crystals at “dog beach”, build sand castles and explore the tide pools or
build a driftwood fort at San Gregorio State Beach.
  • Hiking through the Redwoods at Memorial County Park or Purisima Creek to play at the creek. We try to catch and release crawfish, count the banana slugs along the way and look for newts.
  •  A day trip to Hidden Villa to see their big garden, the farm animals and hike in the forest to play at the creek.

On all of our adventures, we have seen everything from the smallest insects, frogs, banana slugs, turkeys and deer to watching whales spouting and birds of prey flying.

Please, make sure to pack a snack and a lunch for your child and provide a booster seat if your child is under 8 years and 80 pounds.

Regarding COVID Precautions:

We will have 12 children per group or less in the van and at this point masks are optional.

Children will need to bring their own snacks along with their lunch and water bottle.

When the children are outside playing it is suggested that they do not wear their mask.

Questions & Answers
Hello, I am excited about this program that I’m thinking of placing my son in. I am wondering what sorts of activities are planned for 10/2024. My child is 5 and I am concerned that they will not be suited to perform the same activities as a 12 year old - are the kids performing different activities based on their age? Thank you! Hello! Thank you for reaching out. You have good questions. The age range is 5 to 11. It's like having a big family and it has been working out well over the 16 years that I have been doing this. The kids typically find kids their own age to play with at camp and the older kids tend to help out if the younger kids need help with something. We do lots of free play where the kids can use their imagination, build a sand castle, do sidewalk chalk, color or jump rope or daydream. Here is a link to my FAQ that will give you more information. https://bayareakidscamp.com/faqs Please let me know if you have more questions. Also, feel free to call me to talk in person. 650-400-3054 Kathy -

Thank you Kathy! One more question - we can’t do the whole week as school starts. What will you guys do on Monday and Tuesday for the camp? Will Tue involve paddle boarding or kayaking? Thanks again

We will paddle Monday and Tuesday. It depends on what the kids want to do as far as kayaking and paddle boarding. We also go for bike rides along the coastal trail. We usually go to the redwoods later in the week to take a break from the sun. We hike to the creek to catch crawdads and go swimming. -
