A great Adventure for kids Ages 11-16!

WHERE?

After meeting up in the morning we will head for our field trip for the day.
We let the kids help to decide which activities they would like to do each day.

At the beach we will go to the Half Moon Bay Kayak Company to kayak, paddle board, bike ride and just play.

No experience is needed. It’s fun and easy to learn how to paddle, both kayaking and paddle boarding. We only paddle in the calm waters of the harbor, not the ocean.

The kayak company has all of the gear needed. They provide us with wet suits, life jackets, kayaks, paddle boards, bicycles and helmets.

If the waves are on the smaller side we might go boogie boarding in the surf.

Another fun option is to hike through the redwoods to play at the creek. We can make fishing poles and try to catch and release crawfish or make bows and arrows out of the redwood branches. We also have a couple of fun rope swings we like to swing on.

Regarding COVID Precautions:
  • We will have 12 children per group or less in the van and at this point masks are optional.
  • Children will need to bring their own snacks along with their lunch and water bottle. When at the harbor some children like to buy lunch if their parents prefer.
  • When the children are outside playing it is suggested that they do not wear their mask, especially when paddling and playing/swimming in the water.

We’ve been sending our (9) grandchildren (ages 5-15) to BAKC (Cool Coyote and Hummingbird) for a number of years. (Kathy remembers everyone from previous years which is extremely helpful on day 1!) The day camps are amazing. The kids ALWAYS have great stories at dinner. Somehow Kathy makes this huge undertaking seamless for the kids and their grand and/or parents. Kathy is a saint. We trust her and have since day 1. She truly loves and cares for these kids. The people that work with her follow her lead beautifully. We will be back. You can count on that!

My 11-year-old twin boys absolutely loved it. They declared that this is the best camp ever. I just signed them up again for a week in the summer.

Hi Clarke, This is a good question. We have about 14 different places to go explore with the camp children. I usually wait to see what the weather is going to do before deciding on the locations each week. I will send an information e-mail to the parents the week before their child's camp letting them know what their child needs to bring and where we will be going each day. There are a couple of locations that the kids and camp leaders love so those are usually repeated each week. We love going to see the horses and then to "dog Beach" (Mavericks in the harbor) and Memorial County Park to play in the redwood forest and creek to look for crawfish. My web site is www.bayareakidscamp.com for more information. I am always happy to talk in person if you would like to call. Thank you! Kathy -

Hello! I let the kids help decide which activity they would like to do and it also depends on the wind. There is not a set schedule. Here is a sample of the info e-mail that I will send out to the parents about the Eagles Adventure Camp. Camp is from 8:30 to 4:30. We will be going to the Half Moon Bay Kayak company to use their equipment. We have the choice of kayaking, paddle boarding and bike riding. HMB Kayak will have wet suits, paddle jackets and life jackets, bikes and helmets for us to use. Your child is welcome to bring their own helmet if they would like. If it gets cold we will stay warm with the wet suits and paddle jackets. We can paddle board the first part of the day and kayak after lunch, depending on the wind. We are going to just play and have fun. It's OK if your child has not paddled in the past. It's easy and fun to learn! We also have boogie boards and if the waves are on the smaller side, we might go play in the waves with the boogie boards. If the kids need a break from the water sports we can go explore the redwoods and hike to a creek to catch crawfish. The children can help to choose the activities we do. Your child will need to bring their swim suit, towel, change of clothes, jacket and/or sweat shirt, shoes for bike riding, lunch, snack and their water bottle. The kids get hungry when they are so active so pack a big lunch for them! That said, I've had kids ask if they can buy lunch in the harbor near the Kayak place. It is OK with me if you want to send money along for your child to buy lunch. They also like to buy an ice cream at the end of the day. They are welcome to bring games or cards to play when taking a break from the water activities. There are bathrooms and a place to change into swim suits at the harbor and Kayak place. We will have snacks and extra water along if needed. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy paddling! Kathy -
For summer 2025, will there be an option to pick up at Cuesta park for the eagle kids adventure camp? (Eagle Kids Adventure Camp) -

No, we only have the Eagles Adventures meeting at Beresford Park in San Mateo at this point. If you have a week or so that your child would like to do the Eagles camp, let me know and I can try to make it happen at Cuesta Park. Always happy to talk in person. Kathy -
Hi, do you have this camp at pick up location Mountain View this year? (Eagle Kids Adventure Camp)

Great, thanks Kathy. I want to sign up the big kids camp, but only see the one at San Mateo, don’t see the option at Mountain View. How should I sign up the camp with pick up location at Mountain View? -
