About
Art School of SF Bay

We teach classical art - in a modern way. Our classes are fun and effective, our methods creative and our students’ results are spectacular!

We teach our students to draw fluently anything they want from imagination or nature, be that humans, animals or aliens, vehicles or landscapes, using any approachable art media. We train them to be in control of all stages of creative process, from scratch to final touches, and to apply this knowledge in other (non-artistic) aspects of their lives.

We help our students get a better connection with themselves, know what they want, and how to reach their goals.

Join us for a demo class!

Our Staff

All our staff are background checked and receive our training prior teaching.

Not good. My kid stuck it out but here’s what I learned:

There was no instruction. The kids just sat down and drew. They were invited to bring their iPads from home to look up images that inspired them.
We did the 1/2 day camp. Showing up at 12:30, the instructor said it was now lunchtime. That’s not what was on the itinerary. The instructor seemed like she was really not very interested in leading this class.
My kid said no one spoke, there were no introductions, the kids didn’t really talk to each other. They just sat inside and drew.
When I picked my kid up, I learned most people leave a little early. I suppose everyone was a little bored.

I would advise against Art School of S.F. Bay for summer camp, even in a pinch.

Hi Joey,
While we understand a student may occasionally dislike something about a camp, “Not teaching” is a serious accusation. And it is not true, please see for yourself:
We record our classes for the quality & security purposes, and we have carefully examined the footage from the days and hours Lydia was at the camp. Here are the timelines:
August 7:
1 hour 15 min of instruction+presentation, then after 10 min break the teacher starts walking around and correcting student's works.
Students learn to draw a chibi.
August 8:
1 hour of lecture + presentation, the rest is advising students. Students learn to draw a full figure.
August 9:
40 minutes of lecture, the rest is working with each student individually, either they come to her or she walks around the tables.
Students start working on a panel strip, coming up with the story and selecting page designs.
August 10:
The continuation of panel design, students start inking. 20 min lecture, straight after that - correcting students works non-stop.
Students finish penciling and start inking.
August 11:
Teacher walks around the tables, working with each student individually.
Final touches, coloring the frames. Some students are working on the covers for their comics.
Also, the kids in the videos are talking to the teacher and to each other.
We have contacted you to schedule the viewing of the videos (we can not email them to you, but can show them at our studio).
I am sure it will fix the misunderstanding.
Thank you,
Maria

Thank you for your response. I would be interested in seeing the video because what you describe is not what my child says she experienced. I'm not interested in visiting your location to review it, but would happily watch a link. If I see I'm wrong about the quality of instruction, I will retract my review.

Hi Joey,
Unfortunately, due to California privacy regulations we are limited at providing you the full footage of the class communication (can't post the link here, sent you one to the email you've provided at registration).
In other words, we can not legally share the links to the recordings.
But the law allows us to show them to you in person: meet with you in a cafe or any other place that provides speedy internet connection, if meeting at a studio does not work for you.
Please let us know about your preference of the place and time.
Thank you,
Maria

Yes, they can. We would recommend half day for younger kids since they get tired from many hours of art projects. -
Hi, could you explain the daily schedule with more detail? I'm curious about what the full-day zoom session will look like. Thank you! (Digital Painting ONLINE) -

The full day session will consist of morning (9am-12pm), lunch break 12-12:30pm and noon session (12:30-3:30pm). There could be 5 min breaks during the day, depending on the group (per teacher's decision). Hope it helps! -

We don't live locally, so we can't pick up the supplies. We don't mind purchasing them - can you provide the list so we can get them? Thanks! (MANGA online)
